Big East Invites

I apologize if this is not the right place. But the Big East presidents just voted to invite at least 3 new non-football members to the conference. I speculate that all of these schools will likely come from the A-10 (Temple, Dayton, Xavier, etc).

I really think the A10 and CAA are about to go to war, and all of this could really affect where Liberty will be.

This is definitley interesting. It will absolutely affect our chances of moving up, although I have no idea to what extent. It could help us by pushing the Sun-Belt to expand and getting us an invite. However, if the Sun-Belt does expand we don't get an invite, that really hurts our chances. I think once we hear more on which schools are being targeted by the Big East, we'll know more about where LU stands. I've heard everything from the Big-East will try and become a 24 team conference to they're just eliminating football altogether. So, I'm just going to point out the obvious and say it's really hard to tell where this puts us. However, I will go out on a limb and say that I'm pretty sure our Big-South days are numbered.

Football members are also being invited according to espn. No specifics but the these guys are mentioned as likely Boise State, Air Force, Houston, SMU, and UCF.

Yeah, we've been hearing that for a while. I think if that happens, it actually helps us out a ton because the C-USA/MW will want to replace some key teams and likely clean out the Sun-Belt. The Sun-Belt would then have to dip into FCS for at least 6-7 teams. My guess is that they would just go ahead and try to become a 12 team conference and need more like 8-9 teams. That's LU's best chance, in my opinion.

Would we really want to be in the Sun Belt? I know it's a stepping stone, but I'd almost rather stay FCS awhile longer then make the jump if someone else comes knocking. Who knows when the door will be open again though.

They voted today we just don't know who they voted for. So I'm not sure how you've been hearing that for awhile.

Yeah, I would agree. I'm just thinking that the way things are looking, it may be our only way into FBS for a long time. We're obviously not getting into the SEC, ACC, Pac-12, Big10, or Big 12. There is a chance for the Big-East but it's basically a last resort for that conference, and I just don't see it happening. The C-USA/MW is looking to take the Big-East BCS bid and I think they could, so they wont' take any FCS schools. I think it's coming down to our only options being the Sun-Belt or a new conference opens up.

Well, I mean the rumors have been there for a while and the way ESPN has presented it, it's seemed like everything was there except signatures.

Would we want to be? No.
Would we accept an invite if thats the only FBS invite on the table? Yes.

Signatures can be important just ask Mizz about that move to the B1G that was all but done except for the signatures  oh Mizz

True, but I think if Mizz gets into the SEC, they'll get the better end of that deal. Wouldn't you agree?

+1 sun belt is better than nothing

plus it would allow Liberty to eventually go independent w/ BYU and Notre Dame

Maybe we can convince ND, BYU, TCU, Duke, Baylor, Temple, and Purdue to start an all-religious conference.

No, Mizz despite results to the contrary does try to win. The only games they will win in the SEC with any regularity are against KY and Vandy. Mizz in general is way over hyped. In the B1G they could have beat Ind Minn and ILL and stood a much better chance against the field. Also, I'm still not sure Mizz will go the the SEC.

People said the same thing about South Carolina being in the SEC about 6-7 years ago. Mizzou will get pushed around for sure, as will Texas A&M. It's going to take time but I think eventually Mizzou can get there.

Have any of you guys read the Realignment Megathread? I'd rather not cut & paste my recent ramblings. Suffice it to sat none of today's news really impacts my original thoughts.

SC is closer to the recruiting grounds that makes up the SEC then Mizz and they have a better tradition. A&M at least has Texas recruiting to pull from. I can not overstate how overated Mizz is. Seriously there is a reason that they were passed on for a team who's whole state doesn't have 2 million people in it.

Maybe you're right about Mizzou being overrated. I don't know for sure and I don't really follow the school. Whether they're overrated or not, they've at least been pretty competitive over the last decade and that has to go for something. However, my dad has been a USC fan since he was born and he grew up right next to the school. He would even tell you that there is almost no tradition at that school. They just got to the SEC championship for the first time last year and Spurrier has been the best coach the school has ever had. USC has no tradition yet, they're getting there but Mizzou definitely owns them in that department.

When did the Trojans join the SEC?

Let's just say the tradition at both SC and Mizz is lacking and Mizz has nothing to offer when compared to other schools in the SEC.

Mizz won the division a few times in the 00's but haven't won a conference title since the 60's. They really weren't any good in the years they won the division either Neb was just going thru an identity crisis and well you know who else is in the Big12 north

I agree but I think Missouri also allows the SEC to go further west and it's only a couple hours from St. Louis. So, you're picking up a school that's produced wins and a nice market. I don't think it's a bad pick up.
