Get a rematch against JMU in the playoffs or Lehigh?
haha, and you thought I was going to ask a question about Oprah Winfrey and Janet Reno

Both are winnable but I think Lehigh.
We should play against Oprah and Janet Reno next season in place of KY Wesleyan

With all due respect to my friend Flame Convert, I'd personally choose JMU: LU football needs to gain more respect in state, and a JMU win would certainly do that. A JMU win would also help with in-state recruiting.

Agree with you in the long haul as far as the future of the program is concerned but I think we have the best shot to beat Lehigh in the playoffs this year.

We have to make the playoffs first. Don't get too far ahead of the game.

Wouldn't we be more likely to host a Liberty, Lehigh game at Williams? How are game locations selected? If it's by facilities then JMU will probably host it's early games. I just want the first round to be at home .... if we get in.

Pretty sure it's similar to the NFL where the better seed host the game. I could be wrong though.

I know we want to host (if we get in), but I wouldn't mind a trip up the road to Harrisonburg, esp. if we could BEAT JMU in their new stadium!

its by seeding for the top 5 teams
other than that its a mix of regional match ups and who bids more for home games.
with the financial commitment we have to football, i dont think there's a team in the country that will outbid us for a home game.

I don't have to make playoffs first so I don't need to focus on that. The team needs to make playoffs first. Anyone could have figured out that this is simply a what if question, and has no intention of giving the impression that I think we have it secured.

at this point Coastal lost their shot at the autobid (unless Liberty and SBU both lose one of their road games). Its a two horse race

Let's keep pretending that the FCS committee would set a rematch in the playoffs. If we even get to the playoffs.

Oh come on you negative nelly! This is stun 'what if'
Hands down JMU, whether here or there. ( couple of great burger joints in Harrisonburg)
Since we don't play them again in the foreseeable future, wouldn't it be nice to have our last match up with them REALLY be worth something?

I thought we had them for one more year? Wasn't that contract for five years?

I'd take JMU. We know what JMU is going to throw at us, it's just a matter of lining our hats up against theirs. Lehigh is still a little bit of an unknown.

There are 20 teams that make the playoffs. Teams 1-12 are awarded byes. Teams 13-20 play in the first round. If we were to win out and make the playoffs at 8-3, we would be in the 13-20 group. Home games to those teams are based on geography (try to get teams within bus trips paired) and highest bid. We would definitely be a high bid, and the rest depends on geography. There’s enough teams around Lynchburg that could make the playoffs that there’s a good chance (if we make it) we will host first round against MEAC/NEC champ or a CAA/SOCON at-large. The committee has said in the past it would try its best to avoid rematches of regular season games. So, I doubt we would face JMU or Lehigh in the first round.
Our most likely first round matchup would be from this pool of teams: Maine, ODU, Towson, Richmond, William & Mary, Norfolk State, Albany. Of course this could change with 5 more weeks of play.

It would be absolutely hilarious if we played Maine. Everyone would get what they wanted from a couple years ago... be careful what you wish for, tho!

Well ... I went to High School in Virginia Beach (many, many years ago ...

) so I would love to see either
ODU or Norfolk State.

From this list (in this order), I'd choose:
1. W&M
2. Richmond
3. ODU
4. Maine
5. Norfolk State

ODU will put in a big bid to get a home game. We won't be playing them in the first round.

ODU's remaining games are against Villanova, James Madison, Richmond and William & Mary.

Yeah Villanova is pretty bad this year, they should win that. Then if they get just one of the last 3 they should be in.
William & Mary and Richmond are the 2 who are least likely to make it. Both already have 3 losses and still have to play each other.

They will probably beat richmond as well. they played us here and the dome and are lightyears ahead of what they were last year. I say they go 3-1 in those four games with the loss to JMU. The w&m is a toss up but they are very beatable for that ODU team. I wasn't a believer in their QB demarco last year but he proved he's the real deal against us. he's a viable running threat and can throw the ball. If they get their running game going they can beat anyone.
