Midyear Grades

Thought Id start a discussion and give my grades On the different position groups:

Quarterback:B- Mike Brown has had issues with turnovers but the fact that he still puts up big numbers through the air and on the ground pulls his grade up. If he didnt have the turnover issues that he did Id give a high B. Tyler Brennan in his first start didnt really play up to the potential he has shown in limited duty.

Running Backs: D Outside of the Kentucky Wesleyan game last week, the RBs have been virtually non-existent. It took until the fifth game of the season to get a 100 yard rusher, Sirchauncey Holloway showed he can be a good back, but he needs to play like this against DI competition. Aldreakis Allen has been a disappointment.

Wide Receivers C+ Summers numbers were down until the Lehigh game, but he has been the focal point of coverage thi year. BJ Hayes has stepped up to be a definite Wes Welker type (minus the uberstyle catch numbers). Pat Kelly has struggled with his hamstring injuries and Ervin Garner has shown flashes as well

Tight Ends: C+ Tommy Shaver has cut down on his drops and Brandon Apon and Justin Gunn showed themselves to be capable backups

Offensive Line: D+ This is a fairly new line but this has been an issue the last couple years. The running game cannot get going if these guys arent making things happen in the trenches

Defensive Line: B+ Even before the Asa Chapman situation, these guys definitely stepped it up. Paco Varol has turned out to be a pleasant surprise (Prayers for his father btw) and Greg Schuster has filled in as the starting nose guard very well. Francis Bah has been a monster, leading the team in sacks with 4.0 and tackles for loss with 8.0.

Linebackers: B- The local boys, Scott Hyland and Nick Sigmon (be proud sigmo7 be proud) are leading the way for these guys, and Brent Vinson has taken over in the "enforcer" role, with a number of very hard hits.

Defensive Backs: C+ The Defensive backs have shown flashes of brilliance but have shown a penchant for getting burned on deeep passes at inopportune moments.

Special Teams: B Matt Bevins got off to a good start but he is dealing with an injury. Alex Kacere has stepped in admirably but needs to figure out why he didnt get much lift on his kicks against Kentucky Wesleyan. Mike Larsson has been great in the field position game once again. Kevin Fogg has turned into the most dangerous player we have on returns. I wouldnt be surprised if he broke one more in conference play.

If I had to grade the coaches, (and youre not gettign yourself off to a very good start mentorone) Id go C+ We've done well in spots but we havent really put together a good 60 minutes.

The fact that Beej just gave the coaches a C+ proves SJ's theory to be right...

You know I like your enthusiasm, but cmon I'm a pretty big Rocco defender and the playcalling has been absolutely terrible. Or whoever is calling the plays.

I am a supporter, a big supporter. Players were rated and it seems only fair to get the total assessment. No disrespect to anyone!

Offensively maybe but I dont think the coaching as a whole has been bad enough to warrant a D or an F.

Midyear grades are pointless. If we want midyear grades - I give everyone an F, maybe a D-

We're 2-3, and the 2 teams we beat are 1-8. The only thing that matters is winning, and we haven't done enough of that this season.

But all that matters is what we do from here on out.

At least an D as far as I'm concerned. And not a 68, more like a 60.00000034.

If he is, don't worry -- we can still find a spot on our football team for him.
