How about that defensive performance?

Why is the offense still having trouble getting in sync?

Bring it here

the defense isn't perfect, but they have done a good job at covering up their weaknesses.

The lack of cohesion on offense has me worried for the future.

The attendance was not good, but the students were great!

The team is good, but lots of things to improve on. Can't wait for next week even though I won't be able to catch it since I will be in the air on my way back from Denver. Should be a good night at the Bill next week.

I really liked the white helmets with the blue jerseys.

Our running game needs a lot of work.

Good win today. Fogg was a beast. The offensive line was one of the biggest question marks before this season began. If they can stay healthy, we will be fine as they continue to get more experience.

Mike Brown did not have any turnovers. He had a solid night.

I hope Pat & BJ are not injured.

Stopping in the bookstore after the game...

The student section was AWESOME! loud and proud from first play to the last. I got to go up to JLFJR's box tonight and to look across and see the students was inspiring.

The running game definitely is gonna need to step it up and fast. < 120 yds isnt gonna cut it next week.

Mike had a significantly better game than last week.

Pat Kelly definitely stepped up to take the lead tonight when Summers wasnt getting a lot of balls his way...although that one guy from RMU very nearly had to go get his clippers after the first throw towards those two tonight

Defense had some bad moments but they were in Sinclair's lap most of the night and he was regularly running for his life

Props to Mike Larsson tonight (someone you dont see talked about much). He dropped a couple of beautiful punts that forced RMU to start VERY deep in their own territory.

Lets get #200 next week against the Dukes!

Missed having you here Sumitup.

The student body did a great job staying to the end.

I'd like to think we just beat a RMU team that was just as good as last year but after hearing their score last week I'm starting to wonder.

At the end of the day we got the W....that's all that matters.

Agree with what BJ said especially Pat Kelly, he made some great catches going after the ball and almost had another that I thought he would have no chance at. Someone mentioned he got hurt???? Hope not. I saw BJ leave holding his arm after the muffed punt return. Coach said inregards to his injury that it wasn't good.

the one where he reached over the guys head was a very similar play to one he made regularly when he played for LCA.

You're correct. He got hurt and didnt return...didnt sound good for him....aka not good for us having him as a seriously scary #3 receiver.

I dont think there is to much question that Pat is our best receiver at this point. He's scary good.

Perhaps you should give this marriage STRONG consideration. I keed, I keed.

I actually thought I was going to be able to fly into DC for a project that would let me be at next week's game. But a couple of days I was pulled off the trip. Sigh.

Brent Vinson & Kevin Fogg was playmakers tonight defensively. Both stepped up bigtime and we'll need them to maintain that intensity the next couple of weeks.

I saw brief flashes from Aldreakis tonight that have my mildly optimistic that we can get the ground game going outside of Mike. And that late Des Rice run was sun. But until we can prove that we can move the stocks on the ground, Chris is going to continue to get extra attention.

You'll have to convince the fans in purple & gold who show up this coming Saturday. Here's how they looked in their home opener ...

And they still do their streamers thing. Let's show them how nuts it can be this coming Saturday.

As people analyzed Liberty’s cornerbacks in the preseason, most of the talk gravitated toward Illinois transfer Walt Aikens and senior KaJuan Lee, who intercepted five passes two years ago.

But those talks came with a caveat: Don’t forget about Kevin Fogg. Robert Morris won’t have any such issues, not after the show Fogg put on Saturday night at Williams Stadium in the Flames’ home-opening, 38-7 victory over the Colonials.

Charlie Skalaski, who coaches Liberty’s wide receivers, noted that in training camp last month, the biggest battle was to see who would win the No. 5 receiver job.

That’s the sort of depth Liberty had at the position. The Flames returned an All-American in Chris Summers, the receiver who holds the school record for single-game receiving yardage (Pat Kelly), a speed burner capable of posting 100-yard games (Ervin Garner) and an outside senior receiver in B.J. Hayes who has been a major contributor since he was a freshman.

By the second half Saturday, though, Kelly was out with a hamstring injury and Hayes was on the bench with a hand injury, leaving the Flames’ suddenly thin at the position.

The football game was what it was. We are a much better team this year and RMU is not.

Now on to more pressing matters -

1. The student section was electric and the majority stayed for the game. Great to see!!!

2. The fireworks display rivaled many 4th celebrations outside of DC/NYC. Was very good.

3. I was thoroughly disappointed with the attendance, and it was not from a lack of students. 15,800 is awful when you consider we were over 16,000 pre renovation. Capacity is 19,300 meaning we had almost 4,000 empty seats for our home opener, with arguably our best team in Liberty history taking the field against a 2010 playoff opponent.

Very, very poor on the part of our non student fans. Where was everyone? JMU had 25,000 and we're talking about moving up to FBS and expanding to 30,000 seats? Do our fans not realize we need to show a need for 30,000 seats to eventually see that happen? We have a fantastic football team that is fun to watch and can't get more people for a home opener against a playoff team than we did against North Carolina Central? Are you kidding me?

Tonight was an embarrassment with all the empty seats and everyone here should be burning mad with rage because of it.

BJ, before you start making excuses for why the seats were not filled, understand we need to start getting tougher on ourselves and calling out our own fans for not being there if we are ever going to be serious about moving up to FBS.

To everyone - understand that our 2009 home opener, in a pre renovated Williams Stadium, against North Carolina Central??????? lured 16,112 to the Bill. This 2011 home opener, against a 2010 playoff team that beat us last year, brought 15,800 to a renovated Williams Stadium with a darn near full student section.

Perhaps the movers and shakers in Green Hall, the athletics top brass, and the football program are ready for the big-time, but our "fans" are not?

Where was everyone?? We should be mad about this and we need to start putting some pressure on our friends to get to the games.

"Nah, I'm not going" is no longer an acceptable answer!!!

You wont see any excuse making coming from me logic...I was (to be nice about it) royally ticked off with the home side. for the home opener, against a team that not only (as you noted) went to the 2010 FCS playoffs, AND gave us one of our three losses last year, AND with positively PERFECT football weather, we SHOULD have had easily 18,000 maybe 19,000 fans in the stands.

As an additional side note, definite props to LUnpretty (at least I think that was him) for a fine job in his debut as the "red jacket guy" tonight

One positive in regards to the attendance issue is that they were handing out coupons for General admissions tickets on the home side early in the fourth quarter. Hopefully that will get some more folks in the stands for the JMU game. I don't know what else the top brass is doing to reach out to the community but they need to drag some more lynchburgers in there some way some how.

Dont try to figure out Lynchburger's...just continue to try to do everything you can. Who on earth knows why we didnt reach 20k on this beautiful night...nothing seemed to be missing from all of the other promo's the athletic office puts out

What's even more disappointing is the fact UVa and VT were on the road...I'd hate to think what it might have been if they were at home.

UVA and VT were playing. Shows you how loyal the Baptist side is to our team. I knew when I parked my car at 6pm by LaHaye, I knew attendance would be awful...

Yeah the attendance was dissapointing, but I was very impressed by the students. Kudos to them. They were there an hour early AND stayed the entire game! Let's hope this trend continues.

Our defense is good. Continually get pressure on the QB even if we're not blitzing. Solid coverage downfield with the ability to create turnovers. I was a little dissapointed with how far off the corners were playing the receivers. They were giving them a 5 yd cushion. Too bad we didn't get the shutout.

I'm not concerned about our passing game. At all. I heard people saying they were concerned. The only thing that concerns me is the running game. Why did we give AA & Chauncey only 10 carries? They can't get any kind of rhythm going with that little work. We had a first and goal inside the 5, and neither one of them even stepped on the field. We just put MB back there with a fullback. You can't say it doesn't work if you don't try.I know MB is reliable, but we have to see what we have in the backs. If not, MB will get killed before the end of the year.

Special teams were terrific as well.

One game at a time this year, on to the next...
