Considering I just put up my DB writeup today this certainly is a late breaking bit of news...certainly will make things interesting when the team reports in the next couple weeks

I don't get this transfer at all! :dontgetit Why in the world would a kid with the kind of tools Ayers has transfer here? I would love to know the story behind this one. It certainly makes for an interesting addition to our roster, but I'm extremely curious.

that is what the Gtech people are saying.

keenan if you read the free board one poster said it's personal/family related
I spoke with someone close to ayers and he said he's pretty sure it is more personal and family related, but that he would play football there. Also I remember hearing wright didn't like the triple option as a freshman. And I highly doubt it's McCoy or Green both have tremendous potential but have just had injuries and I believe can be huge contributors to us very soon

Wow if this ends up happening then that's awesome! He was GTech's top recruit last year and was the 15th best CB out of High School. Welcome to the LU family Ryan!

The word is out - great things are happening at LU! I would not be surprised to see 1) an increase in the caliber of recruits and 2) more transfers.

Met this kid. he was on a visit at GSU not too long ago. I don't think he liked the whole downtown Atlanta thing. plus we are currently loaded at the corner position. I'm guessing Coach Streeter is working is magic on this one.

This kid is short but crazy quick. Runs a 40 in 4.44. I'd get him into this system as quick as I could and start him asap.

Guys, let's calm down. Yes, on paper this is a huge get, on paper.

Let's not act like our returning corners are a slouch though. We're talking about Walt Aikens (who already has an entire spring and summer workout with the team and coaches in), Kajuan Lee - a 5th year senior with tons of experience, 2 time all-conference performer, and Kevin Fogg. These guys aren't pushovers. They're not going to just step aside and let this guy start. The coaches aren't going to do that either. He'll have to earn his spot. Don't forget he hasn't played ANY college ball.

He adds to our depth, no doubt. But let's not crown him our next all-american, yet.

What are you talking about? Liberty fans would never anoint a transfer or recruit savior before he ever gets to campus or plays a game. Other fans maybe, but never, ever, Liberty fans.

4. Cornerback Ryan Ayers is transferring to Liberty, as I mentioned it in the notes. Ayers turned down offers from Georgia, Alabama and Auburn coming out of South Paulding High and was going to compete for a spot in the lineup, behind Rod Sweeting on the pre-camp depth chart. Johnson said a member of Liberty’s strength and conditioning staff is someone he grew up with and considers a brother, and “from a personal standpoint, he felt like that would be something he needed to do.” Johnson also said Liberty offered a major that Ayers was interested in.

Johnson granted the release. “I think that might be a good move for him,” he said.

With the offenses that are being run today, especially in college, the more CBs the better.

On one hand to act like this guy will start before he's ever been to a practice is a bit premature. On the other hand to bring a guy in with this skill set is huge, if not this year definitely down the road. Competition is always a good thing.

Agreed with 09...like I said, he will get his chance when camp opens here soon. If he is as good as advertised, he'll see the field...Im definitely taking a wait and see approach with him (as we all should)

Found this:
Tech's Ayers to transfer

Johnson said cornerback Ryan Ayers will transfer to Liberty University. Ayers has close ties to a strength coach at the school. Liberty also has a major that he wants to study, Johnson said.

"I think that might be a good move [for Ayers]," Johnson said.

By transferring to an FCS (formerly Division I-AA) school, Ayers should be eligible to play immediately. Johnson said he did not expect any other transfers.
