Ok, since our official colors have came out, our fight song is wrong. It says, "The red, white, and royal blue." We use navy.

How about resetting those lyrics for us.
I can honestly say in my four years on campus I don't recall hearing the fight song sang even once. Sad.

Fan the Flames! Fan the Flames!
Fan the Flames of Liberty!
Fan the Flames! Fan the Flames!
Fan the Flames of victory!
Fan the Flames and be true
To the Red, White and Royal Blue
Let the fire in your name set the spirit aflame
Win a vict'ry for ol' LU!

So in other words, royal blue could be switched to navy blue without affecting the rhythm or meaning of the lyrics. Sounds reasonable to me. And considering the fact that so few people know the actual lyrics, it would appear that now would eb the perfect time to make the change.

I agree completely. I was just pointing out that now that we've chosen navy, it would appear that changing the words officially would be the next thing.

I think we should just start singing hymns every time we score.
Could you imagine the opposing crowd if we all busted out with "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" after scoring a TD?

I remember (here we go

) back in the day- we played the fight song after every score. I'm sure that's still the tradition- when you're winning (or at least scoring frequently) it becomes mind-numbing, not to the mention partial hearing loss one aqquires if you're sitting near the brass section. When you're losing, or NOT scoring, the stadium becomes uncomfortably quiet.
Hoping for a noisy, musically repetative stadium this season!

It will be played after every score, and the Hey Song will be played after the extra point. The Hey Song will start to annoy the crap out of the other team if we score a bunch.

Didn't they used to play "Victory in Jesus" after basketball games once upon a time? Or was that just after the WBB Championship games when Reeves was here?

This is a really neat story. Monday night after football practice (8/21/06) there was about 20 minutes left and Coach Rocco had the team go to the Women’s Soccer (vs. Lynchburg College) game next door. He had the team sing the Fight Song while the girls were playing and from what I hear, this really pumped the girls up!! Wish I could have been there to see it and hear it!! Can you imagine if you were one of the girls playing and all of the sudden about a 100 band of brothers arriving to cheer you on??!! The girls wrote a precious “thank you” poem to thank Coach Rocco and the team for boosting their spirit. That was a great idea Coach Rocco!!

I saw in the program I bought last night that the word "Royal" was replaced with "Navy".

Does anyone remember way back in the day...when "chapel" was held in the old gym (late 80's) when either J.B. Hunt or the guy who started Chik-fil-A came and spoke at chapel? Whichever guy he was, he was dressed in a pure white suit and a big ole' 10 gallon hat and broke out - in what he proposed should be LU's fight song - a verse of "Oh when the Flames go Marching In." The whole place went crazy and joined in. (Just a little walk down memory lane)

Old Hag Alert!
Welcome to the board although I don't remember this event. I do remember Charlie "Tremendous" Jones.

if JB Hunt is the trucking company guy, I vaguely remember him being there- but don't recall the song and dance number.
Are you confusing him w/ Doug Dimmedome, of the Dimmsdale Dimmedome?
(anyone else w/ a kid who loves Fairly Oddparents will get that)
