We have worked Richlands HS quite a bit the past few years. We must have developed relationships with their staff. This kid looks like a perfect fit by the numbers.

ESPN has dropped a 3-star ranking and a grade of 75 on him.
ESPN Insiders wrote:Hess is a strong mauler type blocker who gets movement once getting his hands on defenders. Has the size with enough athleticism for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition; will need to improve his initial quickness.

Good looking kid, but is that 5.7 40-yard time correct? That seems a bit slow for a three star offensive lineman.

OTs don't need blazing speed. You did note his size, right?

Oh yes I did! He certainly is a mountain! As you are well aware, college defenses are being built more and more on speed and quickness. An offensive line still has to have the agility and quickness to pick up the stunts and speed of the defense. A 5.7 is a pretty slow time. I was just wondering if it was correctly posted. Watching the video he seems to block a man ten yards backward a lot faster than that posted time would indicate.

That probably is an auto-timed from a 40 somewhere along the line. I have seen big kids drop .6-.7 off their 40 time with some training & conditioning.

According to Lang, Liberty has now offered. Maybe his mind isn't made up yet.

Isn't he a tad slow . . . and isn't he a little tall for a guard? I'm thinking the QB would prefer to be able to see over his interior linemen :D

You can't teach size but you can sure work on conditioning and speed. This would be a big (no pun intended) signing.

Agreed with TD. At his size he looks like he could get some very good leverage off the snap. This would be a very good pickup for us.

I haven't seen that he's signed anywhere, but reportedly considering Richmond.
