Spring Transfers

I have heard whispers of possibly an FBS transfer or two coming in for the spring semester in addition to possibly a JUCO or two. Nobody seems to have names that I am talking to right now. Anybody else hearing anything?

And for the record, many of my sources in the FOC have dried up over the past 18 months. So I would love to have somebody on campus fill me in.

Kevin Newsome

Pennstate posters on scout speculated he would end up at one of the bigger FCS schools in VA and Liberty was mentioned. I doubt it though because of Brown, Henderson, and Woodrum.

that's the only name so far i've seen Liberty mentioned

He'd have to really blow it up in spring ball to have a shot here...youve got Brown, Brennan and Henderson (sounds like a law firm) already, plus Woodrum coming in and then throw in Reese who was a walk-on

Everything I have seen with Newsome has him likely headed to ODU or Norfolk State. Having the #2 & #2 QBs both transferring from Penn State is weird. Then again, the QBs coach isn't going anywhere.

I got the feeling that the transfers might come from some closer schools.

edit, looks like Newsome is staying at PSU after all.

Sly, I would guess its one of the 5 players who recently got dismissed from VT?

I’ve heard a QB from OSU was looking to play somewhere he could be eligible the whole season…

I hope you heard right! Not that a FBS calibre transfer at some other position might not help, but O-Line is where it could make the most difference on next years team.

I think we addressed J'Courtney way back before the 2010 season...he didnt get it done in the classrroom I think (somebody can confirm or deny that one since my memory is a tad foggy)

I wouldnt necessarily say that we NEED him at the LB position. would he have been helpful...probably, but I dont think that we are so smarting for players that he would completely change the dynamic of the defense.

Rutgers QB Tom Savage is looking for a place to transfer. He was a soph this year.

I dont think we are in a place to need another QB unless he is the second coming of Armanti Edwards or Andrew Luck or something...We are pretty set at the #1 and #2 QB with Mike Brown and Tyler Brennan and we have a QB currently among our potential signees (Woodrum) and we have Hudson who still has three years left...

Regarding J'Courtney, Coach Rocco made a strong public statement last year about how he lost his opportunity to be a part of the team.

1. Was the comment about last season or is the door permanently closed?
2. How much eligibility does he have remaining?
3. Has he been doing anything to get/keep academic eligibility?
4. Are there any signs that he has been in contact with the staff and is attempting to play again?

I would be surprised to see any FBS QB transfer here. FBS-FCS transfers almost always make that choice in order to get immediate playing time. I just don't see anyone but Mike Brown playing that position for us on 90% of the snaps next year. If a guy is willing to wait a year to play, he would probably opt to transfer to another FBS school rather than redshirt or be a seldom-used backup here.

Yep, and don't forget about Gabe Henderson who still has 3 years left and is still eligible for a redshirt season....

agree 100% on QB transfers. That is probably the most stocked position we have when you figure in Henderson and Woodrum coming in. I would love to see Jcourt but after the way that all went done i would be surprised if that came through. We keep talking o-line, Boyd is the only returning starter with Weatherington probably penciled in as well. I would assume Grant would be a starter as well, and didn't we have a VMI transfer sitting out this year that Super said was one of their better lineman. We may not be as bad as we are thinking at that position. I'm more worried about the other D end spot opposite Freeman with robertson, bannon, and adams all graduating. I think we had a lot of guys at LB like Ward, Jenkins, and Hyland that are probably ready to go.

what's up with you guy's slow breaking the news this year haha. Last couple years someone has been all over this stuff

Its called we dont have as much of an inside connection as we used to genius...Jon and FFG both graduated and moved on to greener pastures and there hasnt been anybody to fill that gap and I got out of the spying business just before I finished undergrad...

For the record, Jon & FFG both didn't break news on here due to their positions. It is not fair to characterize them as leaks in the ship.

fair enough Sly...but just because we arent flush with news that hasnt hit the wires and we're slipping? its a dead period right now anyway so I wasnt going to expect a lot of potential recruiting news at least til the days following the BCS championship game...and to answer postie...no it wasnt a rough day yesterday...actually it was a pretty good day

HAHA..i wont even respond to your lack of interpretation through posts which happens frequently other than to say grow up and get over it. JMU picked up a 3 star QB with 4 years eligibility from K-State. Pocket passer that destroyed the maryland high school records. Kid might be there starter when we face them.
