NOTES: Defensive coordinator Mike Furlong is one of seven candidates for the head coaching job at Shippensburg. Furlong, who joined the Rams coaching staff in 1990, has been the defensive coordinator since 1993. Other candidates include Shippensburg assistant coaches Mark Luther, James Morgan, and Mark Maciejewski, Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach Jeff Nixon (who recieved his master's degree from Shippensburg), Glenville (W.Va.) State head coach Alan Fiddler, and Liberty University defensive coordinator Tom Clark. Rocky Rees, the former West Chester running back, retired from the position at the end of this season. ... Four of the six teams in the "Super Region 1" bracket of the NCAA Division II Football Championship bracket are PSAC schools. #3 seed California (Pa.) will host #6 seed Bloomsburg at Adamson Stadium on Saturday, with the winner advancing to face #2 seed and PSAC Champion Mercyhurst next Saturday in Erie. Kutztown, despite missing the PSAC State Game, earned the #1 seed on the strength of an 10-1 regular season and will face the winner of the game between #5 Shaw (N.C.) - the champions from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association - and #4 Shepherd (W.Va.) - the WVIAC champions - at University Field next week. The Lakers and Golden Bears are both making their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Seriously though, if a change were to occur, would there have been movement immediately after the season ended or would it be whenever a replacement is available (if that replacement were with a team that is still playing)?

Typically it would be immediately after the season unless they were waiting to see the outcome of the Ship or other positions.

Just because some folks on a message board want him gone doesn't mean the coach wants him gone. We'll see how it plays out if at all. Ultimately we run the defense that the HC wants to run, and since I'm behind the HC I'm cool with Clark.

Rocco told me in the season wrap interview that there were no plans for any coaching staff changes unless there was attrition.

I just don't understand how NOBODY is held accountable. Next year is going to be the year of the tight end for every team on our schedule.

Maybe a scheme or other facet of the defense will change? Maybe they know Clark is looking to leave?

another year of zone soft coverage?? Wonder which TE will have big game or which WR will because of the quick slants/big plays Liberty gives them???

i hope they change the scheme.

They are to run the defense the HC wants but it's the DC's job to make sure the execution is there - and it hasn't been.
I'd love to hear a good defense from Rocco on Clark's defense.

Maybe, it just needs to be executed better. I won't judge this system in year one, but we really really need to get better next year.

That would require one of them to know a defense that works.

Coach Ake is taking over as LB coach. What's up with this? Are they reshuffling Defense duties?

It would make sense.
A few years back it was Wilt (DL), Wimbo (LB), Roberts (DB), and Clark (DC). Clark didn't coach a specific position but ran the whole defense.
Then it went to Belin (DL), Clark (LB), Ake (DB), and Roberts (CB). We then added Rojas as an LB coach as well.
It'd make sense if we went to Belin (DL), Ake (LB), Rojas (asst LB), Roberts (DB), and Clark overseeing it all.
