Playoff Scenarios

If we take care of business next week at home, what are the tiebreakers to determine whom receives the AQ. Is it based upon total points scored, or points scored against during the season? I took a few minutes, and did some math (including today's games).
Points Scored Against
LU - 194
SBU - 228
CCU - 282
Total Points Scored
LU - 347
SBU - 315
CCU - 293
So, if point differential is the tiebreaker, LU is 66 points ahead of SBU (Total Points Scored-Points Scored Against). I wouldn't imagine SBU would beat us by more than 66 points.
If point differential, for example, is limited to Big South games, I'll be singing a different tune as SBU has a 50 point advantage over LU.

It is points scored against in conference play. I think we have to beat SBU by 50 some. Whatever Coastal scored minus 3.
Not gonna happen.

Our brighter hope is CCU to slip up against CSU, and then win against SBU.
At this point I'm not betting on either of those.

I feel like its about a 7% chance that we make the playoffs because of that.

Points scored against in conference play.
LU - 110
SBU- 68
CCU - 106
So, SBU holds a 42 point advantage over LU, and CCU holds a slim 4-point advantage.
Our only hope is to beat SBU by 42 points, and CCU have 5 more points scored against them than we give up next week. Considering the team that we have to match up against next week, I am not going to hold my breath.

I'll be that guy here:
After the way we played today, I"m not sure I want to see the Flames in the playoffs.
{edit to clarify} NOT because I'm sure we'll lose, but because I'm not sure which team will show up, or which defense we'll run. This team has the potential to win a first round game, but they haven't really played up to that potential lately.

You did a fine job being that guy. And for your boldness, I will stand behind you in this assertion at all costs, including death, higher taxes, and Rooster's eye rolls.
Unless we actually make the playoffs. Then you can sit here and suffer as the new NegativeNancy

Thats retarded. get out of here. if you were a real fan you'd want us in the playoffs. Even if we get blown out we still got in! You are ridiculous!!!!

+1 Anyone that doesn't want to see LU make the playoffs, needs to adjust their signature to another school.

I wanted to make sure I was correct in my thinking for playoff scenarios:
So if LU wins, CCU loses, we're in
If LU wins and CCU wins, We need to score more then 42 and CSU has to score more than 5 on CCU
If LU and CCU win, CCU gets auto and we somehow get an at large.
If we lose, we're out
If both LU and CCU lose, we could still be left out
Am I missing anything?

We not only have to score 42, we have to win by 42 in the scenario where CCU wins and CSU has to match how every many points SBU scores plus an additional 5 points.

We have to outscore SBU by more than 42 and CSU (if they lose) has to score at least 5 more points than SBU for us to get the tie-breaker.

So basically, we need to beat SB 45-0. And CSU needs to score a TD (they can even miss the extra-point

)

This is a pretty dumb tie breaker but I'm having a hard time coming up with something better.

In the Southland one of their tiebreakers is whoever has been out of the playoffs the longest (longest time since their last appearance)

I think the tie breaker should be highest ranked team according to GPI

Wow, that is even worse than ours.
jcmanson wrote:I think the tie breaker should be highest ranked team according to GPI
I was thinking something like non conference win vs the highest GPI (or some other ranking). That encourages the teams to schedule a few tougher opponents.
