Total domination. Very good team effort by the Flames. ST made huge strides today.

Excellent defensive showing, and the offense was on 7 of 8 cylinders, it worked, just not EVERY time. Definitely good enough. Nice to see Bevins back into it tho.

Not really much to say about the game. Complete domination.

But what I want to know is what's the deal with Sparky Woods? I'd love to hear from some VMI fans on this. He's got a very good track record, but it seems like he's just playing around at VMI. He's got 3 QBs that he plays and it seems like there's no rhyme or reason in HOW he plays them. I guess it depends on how the wind blows. Also, why is he punting on 4th and less than 1 around midfield in the first half? Just weird. It's like he doesn't care either that or the game has passed him.

I'll have to look it up but Gregg Easterbrook had something written about coaches who punt on 4th and 1 or less than

they just dont have much talent. THey don't have a QB that's why 3 were playing, the 3rd string guy looked OK, but that was against our 3rd string defense.

I think that I heard on the post-game show that Summers' 3 TDs (for 11 total) broke Eric Green's team record of 10 receiving TDs in a single season.

It did, and actually Chris has 12 now. He had 9 coming into today.

Good looks, oldflame. I had that wrong in my story. Just sent in the correction. I forgot about that TD last week for some reason.

And Rocco didn't sound optimistic about Garner's injury. His tweet confirms that.

The Gabe Henderson decision looks better every day, with Hayes leaving multiple games this season will slight knocks, and now this injury. Sucks for Ervin tho, hope for a speedy recovery.

Anyone know if there is any chance of Jimmy Eden playing this season?

None whatsoever. He's gotta worry about getting healthy before he worries about playing. If he's able to come back, he'll get a med red for this year.

Chris Summers catches one of his three touchdown passes against VMI, helping him set a new single-season touchdown record and help the Flames to a 41-7 victory over the Keydets.

A dominating first-half performance, spotlighted by a record-setting day by Chris Summers, allowed the Flames to capture a 41-7 Big South victory over VMI, Saturday afternoon, inside of Foster Stadium.

The convincing victory moves the Flames to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, following the Flames' third victory in a row. VMI suffers its first loss of the season at home and drops to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Big South action.

So, I didn't see the other conference games today but I have a feeling we will take both offensive and defensive POTW awards this week. Broggin for Defensive, and Summers for Offensive (or Mike).

I believe it is a safe bet that Gerald Stevenson will take the Special Teams honors.

Attendance: 7157

And quite a few of those were LU fans, even though the students were on fall break. There were even some doing our First Down Chant ("move those chains...") which happened a lot on Saturday.

After the game, my crew went by the Lee Chapel and the cemetery where Stonewall is buried. And we had dinner at the little restaurant/convenience store in Big Island.

EDIT: I just read Leo's assessment of our football program over on their board, and it's pretty encouraging for LU fans.
LU looked as big and played as well (at least) as UVA. I don't see anyone in the conference coming within two TD's of them. They've absolutely outgrown the Big South.

While that is a nice compliment, UVA is aweful. While we may have outgrown the Big South, they may have "shrunk"? the ACC.

Just got back from Ft Pickett. I was literally in my truck the entire time in the parking lot listening to the game on 88.3. I didn't get to see any of it but still enjoyed it. Rocco said this is the most complete game the team has played this season but there's still room for improvement. Also said there were some 3rd strings who played pretty well and 3rd strings who didn't play well at all.

Watched the game on ESPN3. Glad to see a W next to LU's name on an ESPN affiliate.

This is what I expected from this team this year. Yes, I know it was VMI, but the guys looked locked in out there. I hope we continue the momentum as we exit the bye week and head to SC next weekend and beyond.

Is there a better QB to WR in FCS? Brown to Summers is money. Every time the ball left Brown's hands, it seems like Chris was wide open in the end-zone. Love it.

We took care of business as expected. Good result! I was especially pleased that we were able to put VMI away early. I would still love to see Liberty incorporate Pete Gagliardi into the offense more. He has caught a few passes, but I'd really love to see what this kid could do rushing the ball.

a pretty complete effort yesterday. we did give up a lot of return yards early but even that got better. agreed with TDD of the brown/summers combo..simply lethal. it will hurt losing garner, but pat kelly should get more touches. now a much deserved week off and then the stretch run awaits! GO FLAMES!!

Something different I noticed on Saturday was seeing Pat Kelly as our new put returner. Has he been back there before, or was this his first time returning punts? Almost all of them were fair catches, but he caught every one of them, and VMI was punting A LOT.
