I've always been fascinated with option offenses. Are they still running it? After watching Toscano run with ease in the first quarter, VMI could give us some headaches until we prove we're able to stop it.

I watched some of one of their games this season and they were running I-formation and passing it.

Might have been since they were behind, but it wasn't the TO.

And not sure if we'll struggle if they can't pass. JMU has an option offense and we stopped their run really well. It's balanced offenses we struggle with. If we can key in on the run, or as we saw yesterday near the end of the game, key in on the pass, our defense plays at a higher level.

So, it appears they're not the same team at all...

68 rushing yards per game, 188 through the air. Only 257 per game, which is in the bottom 20 in the country.

They do have good return teams tho.

They scrapped the option in the offseason. They're running a pro-style offense now.

Doesn't appear to be working all that well. Any reason for the change? The turnovers? Wanted to shake things up?

Turnovers were the big reason. And the group of offensive players recruited to run it -- Maypray, Abegesah, etc. -- had graduated, so it was a good time for a change.

Good stuff as always, thanks Mr. Lang.

I don't like that move for them. The gimmick of the TO helped them overcome the talent they lack due to the difficulty in recruiting they have. Maybe they'll be able to recruit more players to this kind of system, but it's still VMI. Just a tough situation for all involved for football.

Thanks for jumping in with that...its been really a feast or famine season for VMI. I think that if they can work the bugs out they could be a very good team next year and year after (if the administration is patient enough to let Coach Woods really do work with this system)

I panned the decision as soon as I heard about it though...they led the nation in rushing last year (and I think two years ago too). I think that they coulld have made it work this year...yeah they probably would have had to convert a couple guys but as the old adage goes, "if it aint broke dont fix it,"

Keep in mind that Sparky Woods is not an option guy. He kept it in place for a couple of years because they didn't have the players to run his system and they had a tradition of success in moving the ball, albeit with way too many turnovers. With Maypray and co. moving on, the time was right to change to his preferred offense. IMHO, they were better off with the option though. It is so tough to recruit there, the option gave them something to recruit a different type of athlete for and was always a pain in the keister for opponents to prepare for. I predict tough times for the Keydets, but I actually hope I am wrong.

VMI has a solid D especially against the run. Their O is pretty weak.

I'm debating between ESPN3 at my place or Uverse FamilyNet at my in-laws. It is great to have options!

Have you tried downloading the new Flash player from the Android market? It seems to be hit & miss but it could be an option for channelsurfing.net ... ESPN3 uses their own player.

Search Flash .... I saw it on the Verizon list the other day. I haven't used it because I haven't had a need yet and the comments have been mixed at best. I believe you must be using Froyo for it to work.

Hoping that Time Warner gets things set up to finally give us the ESPN3 that they signed the deal for months ago. Otherwise -- it's another Channelsurfing week for me.
