We didn't play that well but made key plays in crucial situations and forced numerous turnovers. Didn't start that well offensively but had all of the momemtum at the end as we had some holes open up during those last few drives. We dominated the total yards but gave up that 100 kickoff return. Special teams continued to disappoint. We were lucky to be at home and had there starting QB out for most of the game.

I think that backup was a better field general than Toscano, but not as athletic and didn't always make great throws.

Score doesn't reflect how close it was, but we always felt in control except for their trip down to the goal line where we forced the fumble.

The defense played very well when they had their ears pinned back and knew CSU had to pass to win. Why can't we play like that all the time? If CSU hadn't shot themselves in the foot with bad snaps on 3rd downs and dropped passes, this would have been a totally different game.

Offense: A
Defense: D+ for first half, B for second half, A for once we were in the lead comfortably.
Special Teams: F

I think today was a huge step back for the student side culture. I understand leaving at half time in a blow out, but a 9 point game that was much closer than 9 points? Did they go to dinner? It was pretty quiet the whole evening.

Their cornerback James will probably get defensive POW. players normally do when they get 3 interceptions, but if he had been called for even half of the times he interfered or held he would have had 5 or 6 penalties, and we probably score another TD or 2. I give him credit for playing agressively when it wasn't being called, but it was terrible officiating.

I was told a mess of them went and sat in the upper deck on the other side to get out of the sun.

Bend-but-don't-break zone defense continues to hold...think it will last all season? Are there any passers decent enough in our league to fully expose us?

Nice to join you all here on flamesfans! Great forum.

Summers was pushing off on basically every single fade he was thrown. By the way, was the 3 straight Summers' fade failures in the endzone reminiscent of Rashad getting stuffed 3 straight times on the 2 yard line to anybody else? Like we were saying in the other thread, you simply cannot defend him. The only stipulation is that it's got to be a decent throw.

Yeah, Summers shoved back on a lot of the pushes. The refs just let them play all game.

And I agree, the constant attempts on the fade route got a bit frustrating. A good bit of stubborn play calling on offense, actually. However, sometimes it works. That triple option didn't work at all, until we got a couple good gains off it, and then it worked really well. So you never know if your frustration will turn into something else.

I was very disappointed with the turnout on the student side. there were almost 2 full sections empty. and then they just emptied and emptied as the game went on and that made me pretty mad. STAY FOR THE HOLE GAME! STOP LEAVING BEFORE THE DANG GAME IS OVER! IT HELPS THE TEAM MORE "IF YOU STAY AND SUPPORT THEM!!!!!!"

The issue is, for most people, it's not "their team". They just like to go for social reasons. Most of them couldn't tell you who anyone but Mike Brown is, if they even know that much.

For our number of students enrolled on campus, we get a good percentage at games. Nothing to be too upset about if they're not all super fans.

And the ROT closes early on weekends, gotta go get food.

I seriously think they could get more people to stay if they sold meals for meal swipes at concession stands. Kids could eat during half time and not have to leave.

I wonder if opposing coaches will finally get the message that if Danny Rocco is up on you late and wants to run out the clock, YOU LET HIM RUN OUT THE CLOCK!? If you call time out, he will go for the jugular every time, and you deserve what you get. Today makes at least 3 times he has done it. I think there is a quote about those who fail to study history being doomed to repeat it. I'm sure our resident literary expert CJ will cite the source.

Coach Rocco was asked during the post-game show about the last touchdown. He said Mike Brown was ready to take a knee on 4th down until CSU's coach called a time out. That's when Rocco changed the play and went for the score--Brown to Summers for the TD.

PS-- "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (George Santayana). Study

I know he did the same thing a couple of years ago. I think it was against St. Francis. His position is, "OK, if you want to play more football, we'll play more football." It's one of the things about him I really like.

I wonder if Karcher would have coached that way, but he won so few games, it's hard to say. :P

That's one thing I hate about a lot of Liberty students. There school is UVA, Tech, WVU, Florida, Bama, etc.........YOU GO TO LIBERTY! BE A LIBERTY FAN! Liberty is the ONLY school I'm a true fan of!!! Forget those other schools.

I'm not asking the students to be superfans or LUnatics but it's ridiculous when half of them leave at halftime of a nine point game. I understand blowouts, but that was dumb today.

Just got home from the game. All in all, the score does not reflect the problems CSU gave Liberty. I dare say our OC and DC were the ones giving us trouble. They converted on 3rd and long at least 4 times tonight, including 14 yards. I DO NOT LIKE THIS!!! Why are we running the triple option? CSU did a good job of forcing us to pass to the outside versus over the middle. Running game, not bad. ST, what has happened to Bevins? I firmly believe we need to do a laying on of hands...Defense, not bad but I am glad we are able to not let anything in the red zone. Officiating, don't even get me started. They called both sides terribly. We had a fumble where CSU's runner was clearly down. CSU's first TD hit the turf then they had a legit catch ruled incomplete. The safeties were mugging Summers and Kelly multiple times. All in all, we are 1-0 in the BS. Bring on VMI....

No one grows up a LU fan tho. A lot of kids grow up a Florida fan and go to Florida so they're a good Florida football fan.

I would suspect a lot of FCS schools have this same problem. Except maybe Montana/Montana State and Ivies.

I don't understand why people don't support the team on one level, because I supported athletics as much as I could while I was there. But on the other hand, I can see why, if you're not a diehard sports fan, or already have a team you grew up with, why you wouldn't switch over.

----

And they don't care about the score. We're winning, it's a long halftime with a band that's frankly boring to someone who isn't a "band person", so why stay when you can go to the ROT which is going to close soon or go to Tilley and buy a coffee and play cards or something?

Like I said, I wouldn't have left. But there's a lot of kids who really don't care about football that much. But they show up because it's a social event. They wouldn't be there if they had to pay, they just come to hang out and have fun, because it's a fun atmosphere.

I grew up a Florida fan. But as soon as I hit Liberty I dropped Florida like a bad habit after seeing my 1st LU football game in 2006. I'll never be a fan of any other school than Liberty 8)

And that's great. But you can't expect 12,000 KBM's to enroll at LU and feel the same.
