This information is to help keep track of the playoff picture. There are 106 FCS teams. This number does not include the SWAC or Ivy League since those conferences choose to not participate in the FCS playoffs. To qualify for an at-large bid to the playoffs, a team needs a minimum of 7 Division 1 (FBS or FCS) wins. If a team is categorized as a BUBBLE team, they must win all of their remaining D1 games to be eligible for an at-large bid. If a team is categorized as ELIMINATED, they are not capable of winning 7 D1 games during this season. Last season, 27 of the eligible teams reached 7 D1 wins. This year, with the addition of two new auto bid conferences (Big South & NEC), there are also 2 additional at-large positions available.

After week 4, two teams (Lamar & Savannah State) have been eliminated. There are 19 teams that are on the bubble. Three of those teams (Eastern Illinois, Elon and Southern Illinois) participated in last year's playoffs.

In theory, the committee could select a team with 6 D1 wins for an at large, but it has not been done before.

One of the quirks of the expansion is that the No. 5 seed and the seven unseeded teams that get a first-round bye will know exactly who they will play in the round of 16 and have two weeks to prepare. The top four seeds will have to wait to know for sure. Probably not a huge deal, but one of the downsides of the new format.

Can anyone find a blank FCS playoff bracket? i see the one that JMUDUKES put out but it is one person's predictions. I thought that 1st round games were more locally played. he has some cross country trips in the 1st round.

It is my understanding the bottom teams will play in 1st round regardless of geography. Knowing the NCAA, I also get the feeling that the best two bids will host whether they are close to each other or not.

just google 20 team single elimination bracket - that's what it will look like.

The top 5 teams get seeded. The bottom 8 teams will play in the first round. The NCAA will do their best to match up teams based on geography. So, let's say the bottom 8 are Liberty, William & Mary, Colgate, Robert Morris, Eastern Washington, Furman, Texas St, and Youngstown St then we’d likely play W&M.

But it’s WAY too early to try to predict who we’ll play. With as many teams are within a relatively short driving distance I think we have a great chance to either play at home or play someone close by.

I'm pretty sure everyone on this board within reasonable driving distance would do everything they could to get there, myself included. I'm talking about the student side (that everyone is railing against in the other thread) and a lot of the locals who will be eating turkey left-overs.

Don't get me wrong. I would love for us to host a game. It just stinks that it can't be the next weekend. The place would be going crazy if that was the case.
