Eric Williams tallied the first 100-yard rushing game of his career vs. SEMO in the 2010 season opener.

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State football program opened its 86th season Thursday night in strong fashion as the Cardinals downed Southeast Missouri State 27-10 at Scheumann Stadium in front of 10,753 fans. Ball State outscored the Redhawks 20-3 in the second half, including 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to open the season with a victory.

"Tonight was just what we needed," second-year head coach Stan Parrish says. "I am not sure if last year at half we could have mustered that second half performance. It was a game everyone thought we were going to win. Our student body was great tonight. Not only were they here but they were into the game from the start. We hope the students come back out and support us against Liberty."

Oh yeah, their QB graduated from my dad's high school alma mater. They happen to have one of the coolest nicknames out there ... the Mesquite Skeeters.

The run stoppers are really gonna have to step up for this one to be sure...if we allow anything like the first drive yesterday it could be a VERY long game

I think we match up pretty evenly with Ball State and EXPECT us to come out of this game with a "W". Sure, we came out flat to start the game against St.Francis, but I don't anticipate the same kind of start this week. The Flames will have a lot more motivation playing against an FBS opponent.

Don't we need to win this and/or the JMU game to get some respect? Those are the only two quality opponents we have on the schedule this year and I think we need to make the most of it.

Keenan's point is that beating SBU won't get us any respect. Beating Ball State and/or JMU would. We really need to go 2-1 in these next 3 games.

Beating both of them would still only give us "some" respect on CS. You've got to win the National Champ. a couple times and have half the team save a elderly person from a burning building to get a lot of respect over there haha

That's certainly interesting news. A 2 game set with the Spiders and a possibly ODU and William and Mary. That should shut some people up who say we don't play anybody when you throw in a FBS game as well.

I was just throwing out a possibility. You probably know more than I do but I just kinda threw "possible" teams out there

saw this on Ball St. message board...

St. Francis was rated 237 out of 248 D1 teams (both 1a and 1aa.). With that said, SEMO was like 211. It's going to be a battle to pull it out. It's essentially like playing a MAC conference game. We already saw Nova nearly knock off the best team in the MAC.

Ball State fans definitely are not taking this game lightly which is a credit to Liberty's program. It's nice to see some respect from the other side!

FCS schools seem to have some sort of chip on their shoulder, like they have something to prove... which is understandable, everyone wants to be in the FBS, and once your their, your their.

but i must say, it's nice to read about other teams speaking of us with some concern in their voice!
