South Fayette lineman chooses Liberty
Nolan Spicer, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound offensive tackle-defensive end at South Fayette, recently made a verbal commitment to Liberty University, an NCAA Division I-AA school in Virginia.
"A number of I-AA schools really liked him," said South Fayette coach Joe Rossi. "William & Mary, Delaware ... But he fell in love with Liberty and committed."
Manny Rojas, a former West Allegheny player, is an assistant coach at Liberty and recruited Spicer. Rojas is recruiting Western Pennsylvania.

Good stuff. If we were really competing with W&M and Delaware this is a great pickup.

A little more on Nolan for those interested. He was recruited to LU as a DE even though now in high school he plays DE/OT and is a talented LS. As a junior he was awarded First-Team All-Conference for both DE and OT. He was also selected to the PA All-State team as a DE, was the Almanac Player-to-Watch, was Academic All-State and over the summer listed as one of the 2010 Players to Watch. He was/is sought by many of the MAC, ACC, Patriot and Independent conference schools.
Nolan is also a shotput/discus and javelin thrower for Track & Field. He was a team captain for the T&F team his sophmore and junior year and won the gold for the WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Athletic League) last season. He also on occassion will run the 60M indoor and 100M outdoor sprints. Nolan currently holds his H.S. school records for shotput and javelin.
