If he played football less than two miles to the east, it’s possible Westmont Hilltop senior-to-be Garrett Lucas would have had a dozen scholarship offers from Division-1 college programs by now.

While Lucas only owns an offer from Division-1-AA (FCS) representative Saint Francis University, he is also close to receiving an offer from Appalachian State. Lucas is also very high on the recruiting lists of Robert Morris and Duquesne, and West Virginia wants to evaluate him further.

Lucas has also received interest from Connecticut, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, Maryland and Virginia, as well as non-BCS schools like Temple, Liberty, Towson, Ohio and Toledo.

“The day that would happen (that I receive a major Division-1 offer), that would be a very great day,” Lucas said. “It’s been a little upsetting to me (that I haven’t received a major offer yet), but I try not to let things get me down.

Looking at his highlight film the biggest problem I see is dealing with faster d-lineman, especially if he is on the edge. if he can improve his footwork he will really improve his recruiting stock

I'm not sure how many other offers he actually had.

I don't see anywhere that we offered (or anyone else other that St. Francis for that matter) It's also close to home. Sounds like this kid may have been semi-delusional thinking he was going to get FBS offers.
