I see he is listed as a dual threat QB. Being new to Liberty football, I don't know the offense yet. Does dual threat fit the offense, or does LU need a running QB or a more tradional drop back passer?

Our starting quarterback who will be a junior this fall is the ultimate dual threat quarterback. We have rotated Mike Brown the past two seasons with traditional dropback QBs. In a nutshell, we like a quarterback who can create opportunities with his feet.

"I just loved the [Liberty] facilities," said Woodrum, who had been to Liberty for a junior day and for a 7-on-7 passing tournament. "They also have the major I want, exercise science. I'd like to be a strength coach."
Also had an offer from Elon, and was being looked at by UVA, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.

It sounds like we are going to have some good competition at QB for the next few years.

With this kid and Gabe Henderson, the future does look solid at the QB position. QB is unique in that you really want to sign at least 2 players in each recruiting cycle capable of starting so that an injury to one is not totally devastating, but in fact you also really hope that one of them pretty much rides the pine throughout his career while the other becomes the leader of your offense (and of course stays healthy). I'm sure it's frustrating for a player like Tyler Brennan, who has a gun, and could probably have been a 2 to 3 year starter for a lot of FCS teams, but may not end up playing much at all for us.

Really if we sign Woodrum that will depend on how Hudson and Reese come along as to whether Brennan will end up as you describe olld. MB will be the starter the next two years. Then itll be Hudson, Reese, Brennan and Henderson battling for the top two spots and if this kid signs he probably will redshirt his first year so he will have a chance to learn the system and then hit the ground running in 2012

I don't think our coaches have given up on any of our QBs BJ, and playing time will ultimately be based on performance, but if what I am hearing about Gabe Henderson is true, he was the number one priority in this years class and was recruited to be the man when Mike moves on. He will already have 2 years in the system by then, and should be ready.

If Hudson or Reese ever start a game in which they were the #1 QB before injuries, I will run across Williams Stadium at halftime through the band in a skirt.

Someone beat you to that SJ. It's just that the skirts were plaid, and they called them kilts.

My point with that was to say that its not a slam dunk that Brennan is just gonna end up third or fourth QB just because this kid signs with us. Brennan will have had three years (two in the system) so If Henderson ends up the #1 as many indicate, itd be Brennan who would be #2 and Hudson and/or Reese would have to beat him out for that to happen. I dont think it will and Brennan will get his chance to make his mark

Tyler could very well be the starter his senior year in a role like we used Tommy Beecher in this past year (but just do it much better than Tommy did). I will just highly doubt that any of those other guys play much except in mop up duty.

Fair enough...the real fun I think will be once Brennan and MB have graduated and itll be the remaining guys battling for the #2 spot (since it sounds like Henderson will be the man in a couple years)

It'll be Henderson and Mike Rocco.

False. There won't be a Rocco here after 2011.

Glad to see a commitment from a QB ... although I admit I am disappointed it wasn't Fleming. But I trust the coaches.
Welcome to the LU family, Josh!

And you base that BYD on.............. what? The idea that he has had success and nobody who is good at what they do would ever want to stay at a place like LU if he has a choice?
I can't predict the future, and the way things are going there isn't much doubt Rocco will get offers, but I'm not so sure he will take them. He is in a position where he could direct this program to the FBS level and become a legend in a place he apparently loves. Taking the first offer he gets from a big school will not provide that opportunity.

Well, think about where we'll be in 2 years. We'll be coming off our first ever national championship in a newly renovated stadium seating 23,000. Still stuck in the Big South. I could see Wake Forest come calling for DR at that point if the timing's right with Grobe leaving, and I'm not so sure he would turn that down.

While I want to believe that Rocco will be at Liberty forever I’m not sure that’s realistic. He currently makes around $250k base salary. The lowest paid ACC coaches will make north of $1 mill. That is a big jump in salary that I’m not sure I would pass up. Now maybe LU will be willing to step up his pay scale if/when he is offered an FBS job but from the numbers I’ve seen $1 mill is unheard of at the FCS level.
If you want to be optimistic we can look at Chris Petersen over at Boise who has surely passed on numerous higher paying gigs to stay at Boise State. However you also must remember that Boise St. while not part of a BCS conference is playing FBS football.
