List for Ball State Bus Trip on 9/11

I decided to start this over with it's own thread, and if someone with higher powers can make it a sticky it might be helpful. It really isn't that far away folks, and unless someone decides to underwrite it like last year, at the full price of about $65 it will be hard to get a crowd at the last minute. I feel like we need at least 15-20 pretty firm committments before the students arrive this fall.

I am excited to see you all here in the good state of Indiana....does anyone know when we can start buying tickets for this game and as an alumni should I buy tickets through LU or from BSU?

I'm just bumping this thread because the game is only 3 weeks away and right now we only have 9 going. We need at least 40-45, and that's just to pay for the bus at $65 a pop. I'm looking into some other possibilities on tickets, but as it stands now they are $20.

We were able to do the Stony Brook trip last year for $30 because one anonomous doner agreed to underwrite everything above that and another chipped in some. The main doner paid for the bus in advance, I collected the money from the people who went, paid for the tickets out of that and returned the rest to HMO, who sent it on to the doner.

As of now, we don't have anyone who has indicated they are willing to do that this year. There is someone who will chip in a few hundred, . I need feedback.

How many are out there who would go if the cost were lower?

Is there anyone who can and will either subsidize the entire thing or just chip in some extra to try to keep the cost lower for those who are on a tight budget?

The bus will cost about the same as the Stony Brook trip, but I haven't booked the trip yet, and unless we have some movement soon, It's not gunna happen. Post your ideas here, and if you can help out financially, PM me or HMO.

Have you checked with the Flames Club to see if they would help sponsor the bus? That way, it would also help with the advertising.

We would leave about 7:00 Saturday morning and return immediatly following the game, arriving home at about 9 or 10AM Sunday.

If I am still in Indy, or have moved but am not that far away, I'll probably try to make my way to this. If anyone winds up going, I'll gladly meet ya there.

Well, it has been, haha. I think my last post was basketball season.

But I have no other reliable way to get caught up with LU. :P

OK guys (and gals) it's getting down to the wire. No movement at all since my last post a week ago either for more people who want to go, or anyone else who can and will help pay. I need to make a decision in a week or so whether we can do this, and if I dont have at least 15 to 20 more firm committments and/or several people who can chip in maybe a couple of hundred dollars or more, it's a no go. It doesn't look like we will have the advantage of a single person to underwrite the trip as we did with Stony Brook, but it can still be done.

Time to pull the plug. :( Less than 2 weeks to go and only 10 comittments. We need at least 45 at the $65 price to make it work, and that is with most of the cost of the tickets donated. I exchanged emails with HMO, and he doesn't think the school can offer even the promotional support they did for the Stony Brook trip, so I just can't see getting 35 more people.

I was debating whether to accept the inevitable or hold out "til the last dog died", and decided it's better to call it off now so people who still want to go can at least try to make alternate plans. (FYI, Delta flight from LYH to IND, leaving at 12:15 and arriving at 4:27 Saturday and flying back on Sunday is $243.) I think the nature and cost of this trip, along with it being so early in the season and a non conference game was working against us.

HMO and I both agree that the game at Coastal is a no-brainer for a bus trip, would be more practical and less costly, and would probably get the full support of the school. I could easily see us getting 2 or more bus loads for that one. If the school officially sponsers it, I'll just be a passenger, but if not I will be happy to help organize it.

olldflame, kudos for taking the lead on this. I'm sure you'll be able to work out a trip or two later this year.

I think you are making the prudent call. I think perhaps it might just have been too early int he school year to get the student body engaged. CCU does make more sense.

Thanks Old Flame for your efforts. Coastal would be an excellent trip.

I think you just applied some tactful pressure on me.

As of right now we do have a perfect record so I'm a little nervous to take the mound...
