will we expand the current stadium or buy a bigger one on the mtn. Either way how big would you want it? And if a new stadium where would you want it built?

Just a pet peeve, we will never go 1A as there is no such thing as 1A in NCAA sports. We might go I-A sometime, though. Sorry if that sounds like a jerk, it's just a huge pet peeve.

SJ, what is up with you brother?? a bit edgy? 1A or 1-A we all know what he meant. now with the stadium question, i like the existing site, just build up so if the fans come and are boisterous it will be really loud.

It's the same thing as people getting ticked off with LU is called Liberty College. It's a pet peeve. I said that.

On August 1, 1973 the NCAA's membership was divided into three legislative and competitive divisions at the first special Convention ever held. All major schools were reclassified as Division I and other schools were divided into Divisions II and III. Roman numerals were chosen to be used rather than the Arabic 1, 2, 3. Five years later, Division I members voted to create subclassifications I-A, I-AA, and I-AAA for the sport of football. The major difference (at this point) besides sponsorship is the amount of scholarships allotted. I-A gets 85, I-AA gets 63, and I-AAA is for institutions that do not sponsor football. Only NCAA Division I is divided into subclassifications and ONLY in the sport of football.

Yes, we will expand the existing stadium to make the transition. Hopefully we'll start filling our current allotment soon so we are "forced" to start expansion plans earlier than originally intended. I believe we can expand Williams to around 40k if we have the need and the cash. We don't need to build another. But we will have parking issues as we expand the structure.
And yes, I-A is the proper designation. And since it appears it is going ot be part of our future, we should begin to refer to it in its proper manner. But I don't think its something to get anybody riled up.

I thought that 36,000 was the most that the stadium was ever intended to hold. Was the rumor of the 15K addition next year true or was it just some sarcastic remark?
According to one thread that I read when LU goes 1A pigs were going to fly.

I always thought that pigs could actually fly

If you launched them out of a catapult they'd fly for a few yards at least.

Whatever they do, it needs to be awe-inspiring fortress that you can see as you drive in if they want to be the Notre Dame of Football/Sports with similar traditions and emotional appeal to the everyman and establish it as a mecca for central Virginians (and of course the alumni.)

You would have to add onto the current stadium. I believe that it was designed for future expansions.

Let me know if Satan buys a winter jacket, then I'll let you know what the stadium will be like when we're I-A.

Some of you are clearly short sighted and lack any vision.

That legitimately made me laugh.

Laugh it up. I bet 4everfsu thought it was hilarious to mention an accredited law school back when he was studying in the TRBC janitor's closet. You and the rest of ASG can snicker at I-A all you want but I'll just be happy that you're not in charge.

It's a great goal. I just think you should win where you're at before worry about going to the next level.

And since this isn't a European soccer league I think that's short sighted.

If a school like App St who just won the I-AA National Championship, has 14,000 students, a ton of alumni, and averages 22,000 a game concludes that going I-A would not be financially feasible, I don't think there's anyway we can pull it off.

Feasibility is in the eye of the beholder. Appy & LU operate in completely different paradigms with vastly different missions. And who say the school that is Hot, Hot, Hot isn't making plans to step up right now? Their administration has been openly flirting with the idea for some time now and has never completely ruled out the move when making public comment.
I think the biggets issue some folks have with the concept of I-A is they think you have to spend like Ohio State, Texas or Florida State to be successful. Sure, its necessary to win a national chamopionship. But if you are looking to expose your school to an even wider public and be mildly competitive against the mid-tier I-As then I don't see why this is such an overwhelming challenge. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? I don't believe so.

App St said LAST YEAR it wasn't financially feasible. We may run the schools differently but they're not using different money in Boone than Lynchburg.
