The Sabre wrote:"Then there is a wide receiver named Demitri Knowles.

He's a 6-1, 175-pound wide receiver who actually moved here from the Bahamas two years ago.

He played American football in the Bahamas but it wasn't as organized there.

He is kind of really learning the game, but he has got tremendous skills.

He is a sprinter on the track team.

There was a national meet in New York and he had tremendous sprint times.

He is a prospect with his speed alone and we'll see how he develops as a receiver this year."

Knowles finished the 2009/2010 indoor track season as the VIS state champion in the 55 meters, 300 meters and the long jump.

His 300 meter dash time was the second fastest in the nation on a flat track this year.

"Coaches are very intrigued by the speed he has," (LCA head coach Frank) Rocco said.

"I think he is going to try to get to a couple of camps.

I think I'm going to get all three kids to UVa's camp this summer."

LCA’s Demitri Knowles, an exchange student from the Bahamas, won VISAA state titles in the 100, 200 and long jump this past season.

Before this winter, Demitri Knowles had never competed in indoor track and field. There’s no such need in his home country of the Bahamas, where the average high temperature never dips below 70 degrees.
Knowles did his part to keep local indoor tracks warm during the winter months, though, with blazing speeds, quick times and state championships.
The LCA senior won three titles at February’s VISAA championships and posted the best times in the area in the 55-meter dash and the 300. Knowles is The News & Advance all-area boys track and field athlete of the year.

Ive seen Demitri twice in person and the kid can fly. he is somebody who could stretch the field wherever he goes because of his speed.

Not only is Demetri a fine athlete, he is just an all around great kid. it's hard to believe that he has another year of HS. By the end of next year he will probably be the fastest 100 meter HS runner in the country. I'm am hoping LU can land him, just as they have managed to successfly recruit other great local players over the past couple of years. Demetri will have a truck load of offers before it is all said and done.

troy that's a question for Ramsey Moore the track coach at LCA. I did cover a few track meets that LCA competed at but I usually got there after the boys 100 was run but I did get to see him in the 200 a couple of times and he was hanging with the best of em (including 2010 LU signee Kenny Scott who was one of the fastest in the state)

And he has a speedy weapon on the outside in senior receiver Demitri Knowles, the area’s top sprinter in track and field season. Knowles, a native of the Bahamas, just began to scratch the surface last year in what he can do as a football player. He was a junior with raw speed and not much else in terms of receiving tools.

Knowles, who already has a scholarship offer from Virginia, spent the offseason refining his receiving technique. And he went home to the Bahamas for a stretch, where he spent time running sand dunes to improve his explosiveness.

“I’ve been working on my footwork,” Knowles said. “Route running is the main thing I’ve worked on. It’s made me more comfortable catching the ball.”

I would have liked for him to end up at LU but do you honestly think that we are going to get 100% of the kids that play for LCA to sign with Liberty? I say good for him...and he will get a chance to show off his track skills to boot
