Stony Brook Bus Trip Report with Pics
Posted: November 23rd, 2009, 11:58 am
I decided to put this in a new thread because I know a lot of people would want to see the pics, and it was kindof buried in the other thread.
Our little adventure began at 11:00 Friday night as the first 33 of our group met at Doc's Diner.

We pulled out at a little after 11:30 and headed North. Our first stop was in Charlottesville, where we picked up Mike Brown's mom and dad and 10 other members of the Brown clan. Then on to Northern VA where we hooked up with Mike's sister and 2 more, making our total 48.
We stopped for breakfast at the food court of a truck stop on the Jersey Turnpike.

Our lead driver Larry

Backup driver Chuck

The view from the front of the bus.

Crossing the Verrazano-Narrows bridge.

We made great time on the way up and arrived in Stony Brook early. We decided to do a "drive by" of the stadium to see what was where.

Then we went to a nearby mall to kill some time and/or grab a bite.

Back to the stadium at 12:00 for the game. We sat in the stands to the right. When we arrived, I think there were as many LU fans there as SB fans.

Warmups

Coin toss.

Some of the gang in the stands before the game.

Kill Bill was happy to see us in the stands.

After kickoff, I switched to fan mode, so I didn't take that many pics. Why bother anyway when this guy was there?

What can I say about the game itself that hasn't been said a hundred different ways already here. Amazing game.
The thrill of victory.

The agony of defeat

The trip home started out pretty somber, as you could imagine, but things cheered up a bit as Larry drove us through midtown Manhattan on the way back. It was the first time in the big apple for some of our group. Sorry, but it's pretty near impossible to get a decent night shot from a moving bus.

Going through the city was pretty cool, but the traffic was horrible, and it did make the trip back a lot longer. i got most of the gang to pose for a group shot at our last rest stop.

We pulled into Doc's diner at just before 4:30 AM and I found myself thinking about Jim Valvano's words. "If you can laugh, if you can think, if you can have your emotions moved to tears, thats a great day. That's a heck-of a day" And it was. Thanks to all who came and all who made it possible.
