The "Arrogant" Liberty Attitude...

CSU Fan wrote:terrible terrible??? what are you smoking dude the CSU defense has shut down your offense today. Our turnovers gave you ten points and that is what killed us. Stop making excuses for pulling off a 7 point win when you know d*** well it could have gone either way. I am getting real tired of the pompus, greater than thou attitudes from some of you guys who think just because a team held you to 20 points instead of your customary 40 points that is something wrong with your team and not that you are playing a team that had just as much of a shot at beating you as you did beating them...

Hopefully one day you will learn to see things in proper perspective as both our institutions teach. Then maybe you understand where I come from...
Is it just me, or does this crying about the "Pompous Liberty Attitude" seem just like sore losers? Or are we really "arrogant"?

I don't really care, because I am confident in the team anyways. But I was just wondering if you guys thought we really were pompous and arrogant, or if this was just a way of the other Big South schools showing their envy, or bitterness, or sore loserness.

Thoughts?

In regard to our disposition toward CSU, I freely admit some arrogance. I would be foolish to think otherwise.

I don't think we are arrogant because we are the first to criticize our team every game. There is a certain level of confidence that is needed to win 2 BS titles and on our way to a 3rd.To me, this guy is a sore loser so he sees it as arrogance.

I agree. Of all the teams in the Big South, Chuck is the one we can be most arrogant about. No matter what happens, we beat them. We're bad and they're ranked, we win. We're ranked and they're bad, we win.

Exactly. This game is proof of our dominance if anything. It's not a sign we're falling, it's a sign we're rising. Good teams win games.

The one thing every team in the Big South (besides Chucky) can agree one:

CSU sucks and we hate them. :D

Congrats on the win today...although I definitely had you guys pegged for a larger margin of victory.

Arrogance, I think, would happen if we were 2-4 and still talking about what we did years ago, and pretending that we were still just as good as ever. Confidence is what we show playing Big South opponents -- we're undefeated in conference play for a LONG time now, so I think we've earned it.

Maybe as fans we need to learn to be more gracious in victory - but I'd say that would be the case with most sports fans. And I really tire of the "coming from a Christian school" line from people. Most of the folks I hear say that have no clue what a Christian attitude is supposed to be, and just enjoy smacking others down because of their faith. We don't run around saying that we won because God likes us better, so stop smacking us because our attitudes don't fit in with your personal definition of Christianity.

Who cares, its called high expectations. The team should not be happy with that win today, maybe relieved but not happy.

I don't think you can call it ignorance. When a team is supposed to destroy another inferior team, and it's a close game, of course the fans of the stronger team will be frustrated. If Richmond was playing Gardner-Webb (not picking on GW), everyone would expect Richmond to walk all over them. And if Richmond wins in the last 5 minutes of the game people would be shocked. Especially Richmond fans. They would be livid... So in this case, we are not arrogant. We are just surprised that our superior team, did not play up to its potential, and are even more surprised that it was as close a game as it was.
Randy was even surprised. You fellow CCU fan.

I don't mind admitting I am arrogant in some ways.

Like the moment I saw their stadium.

I was there.

I have been there at 38 of the 41 games under Danny Rocco.

Today was one of the worst offensive games I've seen from our team. Yes, credit in part goes to CSU's defense who played out of their minds this game. However, with that being said, our offense played nowhere near the level they played at in any game this season. We didn't execute worth a crap for most of the game. Way too many penalties. Way too many drops. Way too many missed blocks.

Today was one of the best called offensive games in the second half that I've ever seen against our team. Jay Mills made adjustments at halftime and called one heck of a game in the second half (well, except for in the last minute). Mills is a great coach and honestly is too good to be at CSU.

With all that being said, we did what the better team should do and we won.

We did what the better team should do and were upset that we didn't win bigger.

CSU is nowhere near the level Liberty is. I can say that openly and not feel bad about it. They are openly copying the things that we do and will tell you they are. If you need proof, go look at the tent they had up today for pre-game meals and ask em where they got the idea from.

When you are doing things the way Liberty is, when you are making the commitment that Liberty is to facilities, and when everything you do is on a completely different playing field than another school, you're allowed to look down at them a little bit and think your stuff is better. You're not looking down at them as people, but how they run things and and their results.

Every single Liberty fan was looking around for replays for the first few play today. Why is that? Because everywhere we've played this year has instant replay.

The fact that our fans had to walk to the complete opposite side of the stadium and stand in one of the two lines at your one concession stand is embarrassing because 90% of high schools have better concessions than that.

The fact that the only "bathrooms" on our side of the stadium were Coastal colored porta-johns is embarrassing.

The fact that half our team is outside of the locker rooms at halftime because we can't fit everyone is there is embarrassing.

The fact that our team, and even your team, has to walk a quarter mile to get to their locker rooms is embarrassing.

CSU played their best game of the year today. That was part of the reason Liberty didn't play well today. However, to say that CSU is the only reason we played bad today is either ignorant or just plain dumb.

You can call it arrogance if you want. I call it pride - pride in the way we do things, pride in our commitment, pride in our results, and pride in where we came from to where we are today.

i don't see arrogance...I just see teams expecting to win. it's natural. UMD fans were in an uproar that we took them to OT...

I really dont think its arrogant to expect to beat a team. I mean if this board all last week was talking about our upcoming game with Stony Brook and just completely overlooking CSU and Presby, then yeah, that would be arrogant.

I really want CSU fans to notice this. this is coming from a non biased source WHO BEAT US AT HOME. its pride guys. maybe we can be a little nicer after we win sure. but we are proud of what this team has accomplished. CSU fans need to read our game threads and maybe they'll get a glimpse that we aren't arrogent we critiqe our team more than anyone. you guys have a great coach in Jay mills and if your facilities get upgraded you could have something special going. I do wish you guys luck the rest of the season. but i'm not going to apologize for being proud of my guys being on the winning side.

Im pretty sure you're calling us arrogant when you mean confident. I don't have to pretend that we aren't expected to blow a team like CSU out because we were expected to blow them out.

Now if you are only fishing for compliments and want us to tell you that you guys played one heck of a game and we played our worst then sure, take your compliment, we'll keep the "W".

Yeah, it's mainly me that people think is arrogant. And I am the first one to admit when we're not as good as we should be.

I have always been pretty controversial, anyways, so I guess it's really just my fault. Oh well. :P

OK- so basically its like this:

BAD TEAMS/LOSING reacord: "AHAHAHAHA, you guys are a stupid religious school- you're not even a real college. Why are you even trying?"

GOOD TEAMS/WINNING RECORD: "HEY, you guys are arrogant. Christians aren't supposed to beat people- that's mean. You guys oughta be ashamed of yourselves. Jesus wouldn't like that. "

got it.

Oh I know. I just love how it's blown out of proportion, and now all of LU is apparently just like me.
