Schedule talk

In the game day central released on the website for the JMU game there were a few nuggets in there related to our schedule the next several years. First, it stated
James Madison is slated to return to Williams Stadium next year, before the series travels to Harrisonburg, Va., in 2011 and 2012.
Really?

Then it stated
The Flames are slated to continue their run against FBS foes in years to come, as Liberty has Ball State (2010), N.C. State (2011), Wake Forest (2012), Kent State (2013), Virginia (2014), and Virginia Tech (2015).
Wow, I really like that matchup with Ball State next year.

That leaves our schedule for next year as: JMU, Ball State, NCCU (tentatively), St Francis, and conference play. We just need one more game. Not a bad looking schedule, hopefully we can get another FCS program for the final game.

:( I would love to have JMU at home when the stadium is at 30k. :D Right now Ball State looks like a "w" for any number of FCS teams. I am not even sure that could be seen as an upset.

Its really gonna depend on where most of those games end up...isnt there a site that does something like that?

Party at my house for the Ball State game! (My family lives 45 minutes from BSU)

Also, if we can add a decent FCS game as the final game on the schedule that would be a great schedule for us.

Ok so lets think about this:

Ball State: Away
JMU: Home
NCCU: Away (possibly)
CCU: Away
G-W: Home
SBU: Home
VMI: Away
CSU: Home
PC: Away
St Fran: Home

If NCCU ends up another home game we have an outside chance at 7 home games but more than likely any decent FCS team will want us to go to them. (Id say look at the SoCon, CAA or SLC for that last one but Im sure they are working hard in the athletic office to fill that last one out.

Interesting. Originally, the JMU series was supposed to go LU-JMU-LU-JMU. Maybe it has something to do with the stadium construction in Harrisonburg.

Are there dates associated with the OOC games yet?

They're both DI which is better than what we have this year, as long as the final game scheduled is not a d2. And to be honest, the schedule doesn't matter as much after this year since we can get the auto bid.

I'm new to the board (with regards to getting involved in the dialogue), but I've been an active viewer for a couple of years. According to the information I have, NC State is on the schedule for 2010. The News & Advance has us playing Wake Forest in 2011. Even the announcers at the WVU game stated that LU is to square off against WF in '11. Would we play both Ball State and NC State next year? That would be good for our strength of schedule, but it would also be really tough.

Welcome to the board LUphatatik. Based on the information above and what I remember reading previously, the NC State game is not until 2011 and Wake is 2012.

The schedule keeps on shifting around ... I'm planning on chatting with Paul R. before the game Saturday to get the latest update. I'll have something in the paper Sunday about it.

Ask if he sees an opportunity to add a Texas or south central game. There are some alumni that would love to see that happen. 8)

Amen!

With Texas State & UTSA both entertaining thoughts of stepping up to I-A/FBS they might make very nice scheduling matchups for us.

I'm referring more towards playing schools in the CAA/SoCon.

Delaware, Richmond, UMASS, W&M, JMU, New Hamp, Nova out of the CAA.....

Furman, Georgia Southern, Appy St., Citadel, Elon out of the SoCon....

Then perhaps have a Northern Iowa or Southern Illinois home & home series.

Actually, I think it will continue to be important to upgrade our non conference schedule after we have the BSC auto-bid. For one, there may be the odd year when someone like Coastal or G-W is actually good enough to beat us, in which case theoretically some quality out of conference wins might get us an at large. More likely, it could be a big factor in seeding. If we have a weak non-conference schedule, we probably get a bad first round matchup even if we go undefeated. If we schedule tougher and have some losses, they really don't hurt us as long as we win our conference; but if we play and beat a couple of tough teams, we might actually get a home game.

Surely there is someone on this board that would be able to add the tentative dates for these games.

It was in my notebook from Saturday, which appears to not have been posted online (shocker, I know).

9/4 -- vs. St. Francis
9/11 -- at Ball State
9/18 -- vs. NCCU (TENTATIVE)
9/25 -- at JMU (TENTATIVE, game could be moved to Lynchburg)
10/2 or 9 -- TBA ... LU is looking for a home Division I game for this spot.

Thanks Chris. That is going to be challenging since (a) most conferences will begin play by that time. (b) the need to have a home game. If the JMU game takes place in Harrisonburg, that will be 4 straight road games to start the season.

Is it possible to schedule a game the last week of August or does the NCAA prohibit that?

No, the St. Francis and NCCU games are in Lynchburg, if the NCCU game happens at all. NCCU double-booked Liberty with someone else at home and the only way LU will play them now is if the game is in Lynchburg. So that's why it's still up in the air.

I think there's a certain start date imposed by the NCAA and it's difficult to get around it, so August is probably out. Indiana State got some sort of rare exemption to play their game against Quincy this year, but it was the only August Division I game in the country.

WOW, I guess that is what happens when you're listening to a conference call, replying to weekend e-mails and trying to post on a message board. Two and maybe three of the first four games being at home looks much better.

I'll be glad when LU plays Virginia Tech. I think it's slated for 2015 season, but I hope it gets bumped up . I'd love to see it in 2010

Probably will not happen. LU wouldnt want to schedule two FBS opponents in one season just to get an 11th game.
