Big South Conference Announces 2006 Football Television Package

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference today announced its football TV package for the 2006 campaign, and a League-record seven games are scheduled to be televised during the year, which surpasses the previous high of six in 2005. The TV slate features two games on Turner South, two games on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), two contests on South Carolina Educational Television (ETV) and one game on either ESPNU or ESPN Classic. Additional telecasts may be added to the overall schedule at a later date.

Defending co-champion Charleston Southern kicks off the TV coverage when the Bucs’ Sept. 2 season opener at future Big South member Presbyterian College is televised live on ETV at 1:30pm. ETV is available on public television systems in South Carolina and the greater Charlotte area.

Coastal Carolina, which will appear on television a League-high five times in 2006, will play on TV on consecutive weeks – Sept. 16 at Georgia Southern on CSS and Sept. 23 vs. South Carolina State on ETV. Saturday, Oct. 7, will have two Big South teams on the air, as Coastal will host Furman on CSS while VMI will play at Army on either ESPNU or ESPN Classic. The TV schedule concludes in November with two key Big South games on Turner South. Coastal Carolina visits Gardner-Webb on Nov. 11, and hosts Charleston Southern Nov. 18 in a rematch of last season’s Big South title game.

In addition to the seven television broadcasts, two Big South teams will receive national exposure as part of Sirius Satellite Radio’s new I-AA College Football Game of the Week series. Sirius will carry the Sept. 16 Coastal Carolina at Georgia Southern game and the Sept. 30 James Madison at VMI contest. Those games can be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 122 and the Sports Byline Radio Network.

I thought that all of our home games were televised in the past. Whatever happened to that?

They're probably on the Liberty Channel. I've got to set up a VCR for them.

Since all of the mens and women's basketball, and volleyball teams home games are on the Liberty channel you think football would be too.

we talked about this last season on the old board. Believe it or not, someone (GMTM or SCAR) said that Williams didn't have live broadcast capabilities or something due to not having the proper "lines run" or something like that.

The reason why everything is done in the Vines Center is becaue they already have a studio and truck over there... At Williams Stadium there is nothing and it would cost an arm and a leg to do it...I think there wil be at least 1 maybe 2 games on TV patience my friends....

BY THE WAY- this is ONE aspect of the program that is HORRENDOUSLY lacking. A D1 FB program with no capability to televise their own games when they OWN a TELEVISION STATION

No love for the Va schools. VMI doesn't have a BS game either.

The two bottom feeders in the league last year. Pretty much sums it up. The only bias is against teams that STUNK last season.

As we mentioned last year, it could be done for less than an arm & a leg. But yes, there is a reason the football games aren't televised.

it's not a whine fest SJ. it was simply a question. with this league being so small, we should have at least one date, unlike coastal's five. please dont tell me you are still loving on coastal.

I don't give a [* Sly Edit - rip *] who gets 5 games. If you tie for the conference championship, you deserve it. If you don't win a I-AA game all year, you don't deserve a tv game. Earn something before crying about not having it.

SJ, no need to act like that brother. even the worst teams in every league get at least one game, that is my point. coastal was merely an example.

This should be a reminder that of something that the football team is lacking right now (regional TV coverage). We shouldn't have to rely on the BSC to give us that. Something the the admin should be looking into right now.

Winning will get you on TV, no one want to watch a loser. I don't care what sports it maybe.

I think that we should not be complaining about the big south not putting us on. We were 1-10 last year in 1-AA. We shouldn't be on tv.

guys, TV will help recruiting, everyone knows that, and if VMI can get a game so should LU. i guess once we win the big south this year, it will take care of itself.

The Big South television access is based on games that regional networks will pick up. ETV down in South Carolina does a bunch of games and that is why those schools get more televisoon coverage. If we can ever drop the fiber for us to televise our home games then we'd be all over that schedule.

And yes, television coverage does increase exposure for recruiting purposes. It also keeps the alumni base engaged in the program.

VMI gets games because they actually won a game in the Big South last year.
