Big South Week One Analysis

Checking the Scoreboard, the Big South didn't exactly fly out of the gates in its opening week.

G-W & VMI were the only victors. And the latter is still breathing heavy after escaping with a victory at home against a team most would expect them to blow out.

Obviously our valiant showing helped the league's stature. But when you are hanging your hat on a 13-point loss it is not much to write home about collectively.

Coastal & Presbyterian now have more concerns than they did to start the season. And Stony Brook's much anticipated offensive juggernaut didn't show against their Long island rivals.

Meanwhile, the CAA Southern Division had a huge opening weekend complete with a pair of victories over ACC schools. Up north, the Black Bears still haven't won a game since the UMass President handed them a playoff bid (does St. Cloud State count as another of those quality losses?).

Anybody else feeling more and more like we are better aligned with lower tier FBS than the Big South?

G-W did pretty well after sleeping through the first quarter tonight....I really hope we can show something up in Cullowheeeee next week against WCU.

Actually, CSU didn't exactly play poorly at Florida, they only had one turnover, and just a few penalties....talent level though....not even close....UF is NFL-level fast.

We knew PC would have issues with the coaching upheaval, but where has Coastal's offense gone?

Wow, calm down guys. We compete with WVU and now we're too good for our conference? I'm just hoping to beat NC Central and Laffayette after that.

actually thought if multiple BSOUTH teams are getting paid to play the I-A schools we must be doing better. You guys should have sat thru the years when we HOPED to get on TV. I still remember Jerry announcing in convo the first time we were on the ESPN ticker.

:oldhag

Sorry: anyway- was amazed to see that VMI final. Gonna be another long season for them at that rate. Though they have some great fans.

You've gotta be optimistic about our chances if we keep that intensity up all season.

PC actually played a pretty good game against FU. We got stood up on the goaline once which would've made the score 17-14 early in the game. We then failed to convert another 4th down in the redzone when the completed pass in the endzone was called incomplete b/c are player couldn't get his foot to drag in the endzone. We also allowed furman to score late in the 1st half w/ 28 seconds left. The game was alot closer than the score indicated. Our defense still needs alot of work, which we knew would happen. But we're a young team and they played pretty darn well yesterday.

This year they count in the W/L standings for Big South play, but cannot win the conference championship, as far as I understand.
