Does the football office or anyone else have any recommended driving directions from Lynchburg to Morgantown? I checked Mapquest, but there are like a hundred turns on dozens of backroads to get there.

I'm actually thinking about investing in a GPS for this trip, so I don't end up as a Deliverance-type casualty.

I just made the trip 2 weeks ago. Did it in under 5 hours using the following directions:

*Take 501N from Lynchburg through Buena Vista.
*Outside Buena Vista, take I-81N for about 2 miles.
*Take the I-64 exit toward Charleston (left exit)
*Take the Route 60 exit "Sam Black Church". Turn right at end of ramp.
*In Onego, turn right onto Route 20.
*When Route 20 ends, turn left onto Route 39
*Take 39 about 12 miles to Route 19.
*Turn right onto Route 19N (now 4 lanes) through Summerville. Approx 30 mi.
*Take 79N to Morgantown.

I've made this trip over 100 times in my life, both ways. Sometimes I get the road numbers switched, so double-check a map. Other routes may contain more interstates, but this is the fastest route.

(And, you can trust me, Cider. I'd never lie to a former prof of mine.)

Enjoy the mining towns along the way, Lang. If you have the time, the rest area on the right 3 miles over the VA/WV border on ur way up has a great view! The views the whole way can be pretty awesome. I'm partial.

Any restaurant recommendations for Friday? I'm staying down in Fairmont, but was planning on heading up to check out Morgantown.

If anybody is interested there is a really awesome Italian heritage festival in Clarksburg, WV (about a little more than a 30min drive from Morgantown) you could stop there Friday or Saturday after the game for some amazing food. Trust me you won't be disappointed.

Italian seems to be the fare of high choice in the area. In Fairmont, Muriale's. In Morgantown, Oliverio's is down on the riverfront near the team hotel.

I'll prob be at a less swanky locale downtown Friday night. Maybe BW3.

My first thought was the movie Wrong Turn. The second was Deliverance once you said driving backroads in west Va.

Chris if you go the "long way" there is a GREAT place to eat in Frostburg. It is the reason I am heading up that way. It is called Guiseppes. MANY a dollar spent at that place!!
I usually go 64 to 81 to 511 (Exit 310) through beautful Berkley Springs and then on 66 into Morgantown. Pretty much all interstate, about 5 - 5 1/2. hours. I have tried the other way, but I like this one There is a GREAT view on 66 when you go to the top of a mountain. A huge gash was cut out to make room for the road. You can see FOREVER at the overlook!!

Thanks for all the directions, guys. I student in class from Shinnston, WV even promised to email me the way she goes to Morgantown. I'm driving as far as Fairmont the first night and staying at the local Super 8. And I plan on hitting up the Flames Club brunch Saturday morning.

I hope you have a full car, Cider. If not, I'm hitting you up for the next away game I'm able to make!

Dead right. Forgot to mention that.

VA state troopers are strict on that stretch of 64, too, especially around Covington.

Rogers, when you drive a truck like I do, it doesn't take long to fill it up. But I'm always looking for somebody to ride shotgun for away games. I'll keep you in mind the next time I head out of town for some LU football. Sometimes I even bring my pop-up camper along to cut down on expenses.

Indeed it does. You can access Bridgeport off of I-79 near Clarksburg in Harrison County.

Hitting the road in 20 minutes. Picked up a Garmin GPS at Wal-Mart, just in case, but I'm also packing my Rand McNally just in case. 'See you all at the game tomorrow!

Hello Flames Fan- Sorry this is a little too late for those who have already left, but I live in southern WV and would like to make a suggestion for those who like to drive on 4 lane highways instead of winding 2 lane roads. The above directions are good and are a little bit faster (maybe 35 minutes), but if you prefer, you can stay on I-64 instead of taking the "Sam Black Church" exit. Routes 60, 20, and 39 are not the safest roads and you may encounter several coal trucks and other slow traffic. I-64 will take you to Beckley where it merges with I-77. Go North towards Charleston and take Rt. 19 "North Beckley" exit towards Summersville and I-79N.

As mentioned above Summersville is a speed trap, as are Mt. Hope, Fayetteville, and Oak Hill so be cautious and watch your speed. I hope those of you attending the game have a great trip through our beautiful state.

As you may have already noticed, I'm new to your Board. I have enjoyed reading some of your takes on the game. My wife and I used to get the Liberty Channel and I enjoyed watching the Flames play football and basketball. I wish we still had that channel- especially with the success that you all have had the last few seasons. I wish you all the best for the remainder of the season!
