Head coach Danny Rocco addresses his 2009 squad for the first time this year during the team meeting to open up training camp on Wednesday night.
August 5, 2009
Lynchburg, Va.
The hallways that have been quiet for the past two months inside the Williams Football Operations Center quickly changed this morning, as nearly 90 football players returned to Liberty Mountain for the beginning of training camp.
Throughout the day, players returned to Lynchburg from various parts of the country and around the world for training camp registration. Following paperwork and some remaining physicals for certain players, the team had its first meeting, as the Liberty athletics compliance office addressed the student-athletes, going over the University’s and NCAA’s policies and procedures.

That's number 7, if you're keeping score at home.

Lang with the scoop (and lots of quotes from Coach Rocco):
On the quarterbacks
“I think when I look at the quarterback position today, I was really pleased with Mike Brown‘s ability to lead and run the offense with confidence and make some throws. Then Tommy Beecher went out there and showed that he’s very capable of running the show. He had some poise and confidence. We’ve got a good situation. It will unfold in front of us. We’ll see where it goes.“

Alot of nuggets from Chris Lang's blog yesterday:
Friday evening on the blog, look for a quick Q&A with quarterback Tommy Beecher, the South Carolina transfer who will push offensive tri-captain Mike Brown for playing time at the position. Practice ends late tomorrow, so the post probably won’t be up until around 10 p.m. or so.
Some newcomers worth watching during camp, i.e., true freshman who have a chance to make an immediate impact on the team this fall: Pat Kelly, Malcom Boyd, Jay Weatherington, SirChauncey Holloway, and Robby Cramer.
Defensive back Brandon Saunders, who transferred from Northeastern last year, is no longer on the team.
There were also a bunch of quotes from Coach Rocco.
And I'm guessing it is
SirChauncey.

Has anyone had a chance to check out any of the first few practices? If so, how are things looking so far?

Wow, sounds like they're off to a great start! How are the freshmen holding up? Any of them standing out yet?

AARGH!!
lost a center (not like we had a lot to go around) and my boy from Q'town is out 3-4 wks
NOT a good start
LANG wrote:The Flames took a big depth hit at center, as Aaron Lundy went down with a fractured foot. Rocco said Lundy will have surgery to have a pin placed near the ball of the broken foot. Lundy, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound redshirt freshman, was listed as No. 2 on the depth chart behind Mario Cosby, and Rocco said Lundy was having a “very good camp” up until the injury. Matt Camire, a 6-3, 270-pound redshirt junior, moves up to No. 2 on the depth chart at the position, and there will likely be some more shuffling along the line as camp goes on. Rocco said Lundy will miss eight weeks.
Freshman linebacker Eric Fath has some cartilage damage in his knee and will get scoped and miss 3-4 weeks, Rocco said.

Breathe Medic.
"Your boy" Fath wasn't going to play this year anyways. The news about Lundy hurts, but it's not the end of the world.

How good can Asa be if he gets under 360? I mean a "lifestyle change" in my opinion could produce huge results.
