What freshmen will make the biggest impact this year for LU

They can be true or RS freshmen. Do you think any of them will become starters? If not starters, do you think they will get alot of playing time.

Terry Williams RB - Due to lack of depth at RB this guy will play a lot but probably won't start unless Zach Terrill is moved to QB fulltime which probably won't happen. The question is: Is he completely healthy? If so he could run for 500+ yds if he gets some blocking.

Terry Adams LB - If he becomes available he could definately start.

Alfonso Bailey DB - Or any of the DB's for that matter could start since we are losing 5 seniors and 4 of them started. The DB position for the most part is up for grabs since the position was so weak last year.

Antonio Tassara OL - Has the size (310 lbs, 6'8"). Rumor has it he was recruited by Missouri and only played 2 years of football. Could start if the starters in front of him "stink it up".

Josh Weaver OL - I think that he redshirted since he is not on the depth charts I saw. Could start (see comment above).

Kicker/punter - The reason for this is very obvious from last years performances and Sly's comments in an earlier post.

Other positions could open up to the freshmen based on injuries or those transferring out of the program.

I think the only position "up for grabs" is the O-Line. Our linebacker corps is the best its been in years, but terry adams (if he can learn Roccos defense) could be a solid backup. And the williams kid might get some leftover carries for when Rashads tired. :)

QB, RB, and WR especially are all locked for the season. Seasoned guys at all those positions. Wynton Jackson, Brandon Turner, and Darnell Edwards sounds real good to me.
EL is a leader at corner if he can stay healthy, and Pat Calvary proved himself last season, but I'd love to see a lot of competition at that position.
Pat Dickerson, who looked very athletic and seemed to be talking and getting people lined up at the spring game, seems to be one of the physical and vocal leaders on the field. Ryan Greiser turned down a few D-1A schools to come here so he's definetly got potential at the safety position. But once again, i hope these freshman are for real because they will only make everyone else play better. Competition wins championships.

Don't be shocked if Trowbridge doesn't make some noise this fall. Along with Terry Williams I have a feeling we pulled off a couple of real coups down in Florida.

Wasn't Trowbridge hurt last year? It might do him good to redshirt this year to fully recover.

Trowbridge was getting some serious I-A and I-AA looks before tearing his ACL in the spring game prior to his senior season of high school. He rehabbed and missed the 1st five games of his senior year. By his own admission, he came back at less than 100% but still had a solid season for his team and Liberty was one of the few schools that wasn't scared off by the knee issue. This past spring, he competed in weightlifting and the knee did not seem to cause an issue there. However, I'm sure that Chris Casola will be evaluating him as August progresses and will determine if the knee needs any additional help.

That is good news about the knee. I would figure if he competed in powerlifting events with no issues then it must be okay. I wonder what other Division 1A schools tryed to recruit him before the injury. I know that Bethune Cookman was in the running but the rest of the 1A's stopped recruiting him after the injury.

I have not been in touch with LU football for a while so I am not really sure who is returning or about the new freshman coming in, but I do believe that it is easier for running backs to play earlier than most any other position.

LU has in the past had some very early success with running backs. As true freshment Dre Barnes, Gene Goodman, Stacy Nobles, and Xach Terrell all had great first years. There is no reason why Terry Williams can't have that kind of success and then some. This guy played against some of the best high school competition in the country (6A in Florida) and excelled. I just wonder what the extent of his injury was his junior season. Before his injury he was considered one of the top backs in the country and even in his senior season was recruited by ACC and SEC caliber teams.

I am counting down the days to see some of these guys on the field. I will be there opening night. It seems like August 31st will never get here. I'm sure Coach was able to grab some good talent, it will just be a matter of time to see them out there. Hopefully, our program will get to the point where our freshman won't have to play in their first year, but will have at least one year to gain invaluable experience.

I too am counting down the days till kickoff. But I guess I can't get too overly optimistic considering the team's performance in the last 8 years but hopefully we can take that important first step in competing for the playoffs year-in and year-out. A win against the likes of Towson, William and Mary, Western Carolina would really fire me up bigtime and would change the way I have percieved the football program. Recruiting should continue to get better as Coach Rocco would have more time to evaluate high school talent instead of working with a small window of time when this years recruiting class was put together. And like you said: when the program gets to that level we could redshirt all incoming freshmen to learn the system so they are prepared to compete at the college level. So we will see what happens between now and August 31st.

I know that QB is pretty much locked down but I gotta ask, with Zach Terrell and Brock Smith likely to get most of the game action, where does that leave Tavarus Dove and the freshmen QBs that come in and STAY at QB

If everyone stays healthy and productive, they redshirt. You never want to play a true freshman at QB unless you have nothing to lose.

That's understandable for the freshmen but what about T-Dove? I mean he already redshirted

From what I know the guy is a walkon and would only play in case of a blowout.

Then if all goes well he should play a lot in the first couple games...hehe

He should be in there by the end of the 3rd quarter.

T-Dove is a great guy and a decent athlete but he is not a D-1 QB. To his credit, he knows that and is still with the team to help other guys get better.

Dove is a practice guy. How well he immitates the other teams offense in a big factor in how well our defense will play. So let's hope he or the new freshmen who will also be on the scout team do a great job for our defense this year.

Trowbridge was getting looks from Miami and Florida. Miami LB coach was going to offer him the next week when he goes down there for a visit. But, he torn his ACL before that happen. Miami LB coach said he remind him of Dan Morgan. You guys are going to love him and by the way he can bench 500lbs helps.

Thanks for the insight, sarge. We are genuinely excited about having Andrew on campus. Perhaps there was a purpose for his injury.
