And why?

Great discussion. There are three completely different options listed. And frankly, Tyler will have a chance to work his way into the discussion as well at some point.

I picked other because I see a QB platoon coming with Mike Brown and Tommy Beecher. I think they wouldn't have brought in Tommy to sit the pine, and we will throw in heavy doses of Mike for the change-up.

I think it will be Mike Brown. He's our only underclassmen captain, he brings something to the table that none of the others do, and he's had (alot) more time than Beecher to learn the system.

I said Landis but that's totally based on the situation at the end of last season. I haven't followed practice to know if any of the other QBs have made a progression to take the job. I also think Beecher was brought in to compete for the job. But that doesn't mean he'll get it.

I think it will be the one that Coach Rocco thinks can lead the team the best this year. Personally, I trust his judgement.

Cop out. Pick one.

Seriously. I will trust Coach no matter who he decides, but come on.

Mike Brown had beaten him out by the spring game, and since Spencer's got two years on Mike in development I can't see Spencer beating Mike out during the summer.

I think Mike Brown. He adds stuff that no other quarterback can add. With the center position being a little shaky, Mike has the versatility to make up for a bad snap and gain a yard or two instead of losing five. He may make one or two bad throws a game but he'd make up for that with his running ability.

I picked Tommy with the same thought that Rooster had. I think he transferred here to play, not sit. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike is the main guy though.

It's likely that Tommy Beecher would've come to Liberty even if football wasn't an option.

I voted other: Tyler Baker.

Fair observation since you've probably met him by now and I haven't. I hope he did come to LU because he wanted to be at LU. But I still bet he wants to play and expects too.

To me Game 1 it doesn't matter who the starter is at all. I say that because against WVU at least 2 guys are going to get into that game so Rocco and staff can evaulate the talent. Personally i think the guy who comes in #2 against WVU fairs far better. He has an above average chance at some success which could fuel confidence. As opposed to the guy who will on certain plays be running for his life against the first team defense. No one but Beecher has started a game as a college QB, so obvously Rocco may throw Beecher in to the fire first if he is capable because the atmosphere won't or shouldn't intimidate him. More than one guy is getting a chance though, its all what you make of your oppurtunity.

First, why on earth would Rocco wait until WVU to evaluate the talent? That's what training camp is for. If the coaches don't know by gameday who can do what, we have serious issues outside of just who our starter at QB is. Secondly, even if we did wait until then, WVU is hardly the opponent you want to determine that against.

That said, if the game gets out of hand in either direction -- hey, I can hope -- I would also expect to see multiple QB's as well as substitution at other positions just to get some guys some live game minutes.

One other thing to throw into the discussion:

Who starts at QB may be determined less by who's the better signal-caller and more by whether or not the young guys at WR are ready to go. We know Brown can play out there.

RTF makes a good point. WR could be a very wide open battle right through to the WV game. You also wonder about RB with so many guys in line for carries going into camp.

Tommy starts, big away game, hostile env., he has that experience.

What im saying is its quite possible both bring different things to the game, plus we have a whole new staff this year and have tweaked our offense from previous years. Evaluting your talent vs. your own team and then vs. WVU two different scales in my opinion.

I voted Beecher. A coach wants the most weapons on the field as possible at any given time. Brown's flexibility as a WR or even at RB for a few plays allows Beecher to get on the field at the same time. Aside from WVU's, that's a pretty scary scenario for any D-Coordinator on LU's schedule.

Point taken.

By the end of the year Beech will have taken more snaps then any other QB...that's a guarantee!
