Yes Mountaineer fans, if the name Dan Rocco sounds vaguely familiar or, to the point, infamous, it’s understandable.

And you may not even know the name, but hard-core Mountaineer fans will remember the play.

West Virginia-Penn State, Mountaineer Field, 1980. Peterstown’s Steve Newberry certainly remembers it.

WVU was going for a big upset of the nemesis Nittany Lions, a team it hadn’t beaten since 1955 (there was that unspectacular 14-14 tie in ’58) and many of those games had been lopsided affairs.
