A friend just called and told me this was announced in the Flames Club Luncheon

Sweet.

It would absolutely destroy, & I mean destroy, any wuffpecker fans if we beat them at Carter-Finely.....which would be much to my delight.

As shaky and mediocre as State has been lately... that might actually be a possibility!

Are the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Brves the only teams we CAN'T beat?

No chance against Moo U or WVU, sorry. Feel free to quote me if I'm wrong.

That’s 3 seasons from now. Yes it’s a long shot, but we don’t know who 75% of our team will be in 3 years.

Nor do we know who Moo U will have...

I just don't think you can EVER say that a Big South team of even dynastic greatness could ever beat an ACC team in football.

Like I said, please quote me if I am wrong. Once I am done partying and celebrating the upset I will put my foot squarely in my mouth.

Noone should be predicting a victory, but saying "that might be a possibility" is fine.

I really don't think so.

Just because App State beat a Big 10 team doesn't mean it's open season in BCS Schools for FCS Conference Champs.

I think we could hang with low level ACC schools... but to say that we have a chance of winning (which I interpret as like, 25% or more chance... otherwise you would say "slim chance" or "slight opportunity"), is pretty absurd...

There is a huge difference between even a weak ACC and the best of the Big South or other non-auto-bid FCS conferences. Would any of you pick Lafayette to beat NC State, or William and Mary to beat West Virginia? What makes you think we could, if they can't? (which they can't)

Where are you coming up with these numbers??? 25%??? A chance of winning is anything over 0.00%

I can't wait until you eat crow in 2011. Have you ever heard of Rocco, Mike?

What has become of this board when TTL is the voice of reason?

JC-

When you're having a casual conversation, saying that a win is a possibility is saying that you feel with some certainty that you have a chance to win.

Any team can win any game within reason. This is sports, anyone can win. There is always more than a 0% chance of winning. We could play UNC in basketball 100,000 times and would win once. I don't know how or why, but we would.

However, talking as if we actually have some kind of chance to beat a team that is several levels above us and is perennially a solid, mid-level ACC school is pretty nuts. Same with the idea that, because Pat White is leaving, we can beat WVU.

For every Mike Rocco here, there are 5 Phillip Rivers' at NCSU. They are on a different level than we are. They have NFL caliber players on both sides of the ball. We are lucky to have 4 on the whole team.

Wow, I don’t know where to start. I don’t think we’d beat UNC in basketball even if we played them 1,000,000 times. Also, NCSU is not “several levels above us”. They are FBS, we are FCS. That’s one level. And no NCSU doesn’t have 5 Phillip Rivers. He rewrote their record book, and they haven’t had 5 Philip Rivers in their history.

Levels

BCS Elite
BCS Middle of the Pack/FBS Non-AQ Elite(Boise, TCU, etc and where NCSU would be)
BCS Bottom Feeder/Other FBS Non-AQ's Middle of the Pack (Troy, Duke, etc)
FCS AQ Elite/FBS Bottom Feeders (App State, Temple, Ohio U, Montana)
FCS AQ Middle of the Pack/FCS Non-AQ Elite (Liberty, Laffy, Wofford, etc...)
FCS AQ Bottom Feeders/FCS Non-AQ (Chatty, Gardner Webb)
and the lowest level... Presby

So see, there are more than just two levels. We are pretty low on the totem pole, and will take a while to work our way up. It's no knock on us, it's just where we're at.

And as for Philip Rivers...

I didn't mean literally Philip Rivers, but NCST has had some legit NFL talent on both sides of the ball for years now. We have had Vince and Rashad since we started the "dynasty" as some are calling it.... that's it.

Big South School Gardner Webb 7 ACC school Georgia Tech 14. Last year. It wasn't a blowout. Anything can happen.

Also, TTL's list of LU NFL players is incomplete. I know at least 1 more. Ben Anderson played for the New York Giants for 1 year. Signed as a free agent.

First of all, it was 10-7.

Second of all, GW played the best game they could play, out-produced GT in every statistical category, and still couldn't manage more than 7 points, nor could they manage a win.

Third of all, GT was starting their 3rd string QB in their new triple option offense... kinda of a rough assignment for a senior who didn't even throw the ball 40 times his entire career, much less get any sort of legit playing time in that timing based offense.

That game is proof of my point. All the stars aligned for GW to win... and they didn't.

I didn't compose the list...

got it from http://www.databasefootball.com/

But the point is the same. One or two more names on our list doesn't change things...

Are you joking? Anything less than 7 points is a 1 play difference between winning and losing. Any competitive score is the opposite of proof of your point.

I agree with TTL. No way we beat State in two years, and no way we beat WVU this year. The way things are at Liberty, I doubt Rocco will even be here in two years.

Good points....a couple of side notes to add:

1. GT blocked our attempt to tie as time expired.

2. On GT's only TD, the 79 yard crossing pattern, the umpire took out the defender covering the receiver, pretty blatant too if you saw it.

I hope we play as well in Raleigh this year on 9/19....

NC State will be rebuilding in 2011. It will be a great year for Liberty to play them.

Im new to the board too. This is my first post but hopefully I will be getting more involved. Thanks and go LU!

No, that is the point. It came down to a one play difference between winning and losing, and GW couldn't win. They had a game full of opportunities to win, and didn't. GT played its worst, and GW played its best, and it STILL wasn't good enough.

All I'm saying is anything can happen. It doesn't take much courage to say LU can't compete against X. When I was at LU in 98...one of my roomates asked me about the pep band during the basketball games. I said, "they're called the Sweet 16". He laughed and said LU will never make the sweet 16. It was a double header game...so I said, "The girl's team might one day." He said...this is the real world...not even the girl's could make the sweet 16". But it happened.
