MORGANTOWN - It's probably too much to ask of Jarrett Brown that he be the same quarterback this fall that he was in West Virginia's spring-ending scrimmage on Saturday.

A 15-for-15 passing start? Four touchdowns? Apparently not a care - or a glitch - in the world?

OK, maybe on the Mountaineers' first Saturday next season. Sacrificial lamb Liberty figures to be only slightly - if that - more formidable than the competition Brown and West Virginia's No. 1 offense faced while roughing up the team's reserves. And truth be told, if the Flames do put up a better fight, it should only be because of emotion, not talent.

Apparently Dave Hickman believes that we won't put up more of a fight against WVU than their scout team.

Thoughts?

I think he's crazy if he thinks their reserves are better than our starters! And I know Liberty beating West Virginia next year is kind of a long shot, but if we do stand a chance, its because of their shaky quarterback situation.

From the article...

"The fact is there are times when he seems confident almost to a fault. He has waited four long years to be in this position and he's almost overanxious at times to take advantage of it. In that spring game on Saturday, he was making plays that seemed to be gambles and virtually every one of them worked out."

I guarantee you that if their Brown takes these gambles against us, we will capitalize on them. Even if its just emotion...

And btw... I remember a few years ago when App St was heading up to Michigan, some of their writers were saying that the Wolverines would destroy the Mountaineers and that the difference between 1A and 1AA was so vast that the champions of 1AA would get destroyed by the 1A Michigan team.

So let these WVU people get a little cocky. Let them talk their crap... Let's go in to Morgantown and play our hearts out and just see what happens... I mean hey, it worked for App St in the Big House!

With Division I-A opponents -- and this is probably more so the case with BCS conference schools -- it's not that the scrubs / backups are lousy -- if they were recruited by a D I-A school, they're not -- it's that they're young. You're looking at a guy on the scout team who is probably a year out of high school, and two years away from being a college senior and playing for a bowl game.

Our team, I'd argue, would be better conditioned, better developed, and better trained, simply because they're older... but you have to give West Virginia (and other I-A schools) the nod in this case, because their team probably has more raw talent.

First off, I am not liking the "sacrificial lamb Liberty" part. Second, I really hope that LU can pull out with a win. Considering that WVU lost QB White to graduation and the NFL, we might have a slight chance because this is their first season game and the new starting QB might have issues (let's hope  ).

BTW, I have decided that I will try to use less emoticons 8)

GMTM stands for GiveMeTheMic, a dude who earned his reputation as a bad speller. Now everytime something is spelled wrong it is a GMTM. (He wouldn't have earned a bad reputation if he just used emoticons all the time 8) )

WVU's reserves are at WVU b/c they are better than LU, hands down! End of discussion, moving on.

Brown is a better throwing quarterback than White was. LU has not seen speed and cut-back ability the likes od Devine - possibly ever, certainly in the last 5 years. The speed on special teams will be nothing like LU has seen.

Someone mentioned LU having a chance b/c WVU lost White. Didn't LU just lose a mid-high round NFL running back, to go along w/ a very solid QB?

This compares very, very little to App State/Michigan.

Apparently I'm the only one seeing this realistically. LU will go into Morgantown, hope to keep the game within 3 TD's, PRAY fervently for no serious injuries, take their $500k, and hope to go home in one piece.

JK37, You are not the only one who is seeing the situation in a realistic way.
WVU in my opinion has a chance to be better than what they were last year, because WVU's linebacker corp, wide-out corp, D-Linemen are all returning and to be truthful Jarrett Brown's arm is stronger than Pat White's arm.
In order for LU to even stay close in the game, Coach Rocco is going to have to find some "Playmakers" during fall camp at the LB, QB, WR, CB, RB, and WR position. I'm pretty sure Coach Rocco is going to field the best guys who give LU the best chance of winning at Morgantown.

The only thing that keeps this game close for a half is if Coach Rocco can sustain drives. With Rashad Jennings, it would have been a decent possibility. Without him...no one can be sure.

Liberty can win that game at WVU. Pat White carried that team last season, and their coach, Stewart, is a clod who couldn't hold Rocco or Patton's clipboard.

Let those inbreds in WV think it is a scrimmage and not attend and go troll for a date at a family reunion instead. I'm sure LU will take a good number of fans to that cesspool known as Morgantown.
