Wake Forest Game

Anybody got any comments on how that game should be? We are heading down there to face our first ACC team on their homecoming. I know that there are a bunch of us from NC that will be there in red and white to see how that one goes. And do you think Coach Rocco will be able to turn things around for the flames?

welcome 99! it is good to see some more carolina blood on the board. i just recently moved away from the triangle...carolina is a great place. anyway i feel rocco will get things turned around. a new attitude, some new players, a new ops center... things will improve. to expect us to beat wake i think would be pushing it. jim grobe has really changed the deacs program, and they are very competitive against the bigger schools. i really hope we reperesent well in winston and show everyone how far the program has come. im not expecting a win, but i am expecting us to play hard and never quit.

Hey, you're from Winston. I'm from right up 52 in King.
I think we can hang with Wake for a quarter, maybe a half. After that it's "Thanks for the pay check, please don't hurt us."

I don't have any grand thoughts of winning, but it would be nice to make it a game. I agree that the new field house and the new turf will definately help recruiting. That old stuff was the most un-skin friendly turf maybe in the country. It is nice that they are updating the field, stadium and schedule.

Gotcha. I only head to that side of town when I'm going over towards the mall and stuff like that. I tend to stay more on the University side of things.

I continue to be amazed that a school the size of Wake (4200 undergrads- you read that right) is comptetetive at all, let alone has the reputation that they do (solid program). This may actually be a better model for us to aspire to than BYU or ND.

It'd be nice to aspire to how their campus looks like with all the grass and things like that.
Wake's a good school. I would've loved to go there but it's about $40,000 a year and that's just a little too much for me to handle. I had a chance to go there on a music scholarship but didn't go through with the official audition and everything because it wouldn't have paid for nearly enough as I needed.

I think the billion (with a "B") dollar endownment has something to do w/ attracting D1 FB talent, despite the fact that our local high schools are larger!

I think Wake's competitive status is more of an accident of history than anything they've aspired to do. Bear in mind, that nearly all of the current ACC and several SEC teams were once all part of the original Southern Conference. Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina St., South Carolina and Wake Forest all split off from the SoCon in 1953 and formed the ACC, leaving behind VaTech, W&M, El Cid, Furman, Davidson, West Virginia, George Washington and W&L. That the ACC prospered -- and Wake w/ it --while the SoCon became a I-AA conference seems more like one of those 'flip-the-coin of destiny' things to me.

It is all a trickle down effect from Everett Case's grand experiment--the ACC Basketball Tourney. ACC hoops elevated the conference, and football has simply followed. Of course, one could argue that the ACC is actually a WOMEN'S SOCCER conference, too.

If you've ever read anything on this board, you would realize that's a joke. Many of us on here have a sense of humor. It'd be good for you to get one as well.
