Cool feature on Nick in Roanoke fishwrap ...

The 6-foot-2, 238-pound linebacker is one of the harder hitting players in Timesland.

By Robert Anderson

Northside junior linebacker Nick Sigmon (left) dives after Pulaski County's Luke Watson during a game earlier this season.

Nick Sigmon seems nice enough.

His face turns red sometimes when he's asked a question. He has an easy smile that turns into a quick laugh if he's caught slightly off guard. Every now and then he'll drop his head in a humble gesture if a compliment comes too close.

That's Good Nick.

Northside football teammate Isaiah Martin knows the other Nick.

Bad Nick.

"He's funny. He's nice," Martin said. "But if you make him mad, it's like, 'Oh.' If he messes up a play and the coaches get on him, the next play he's going to rock somebody."

Sigmon, a 6-foot-2, 238-pound junior middle linebacker has been doing his share of hard hitting in 2008. Heading into Northside's battle for first place in the Blue Ridge District against visiting William Byrd tonight, Sigmon leads the Vikings with 68 solo tackles.

haven't been able to get on in a while been working out of town alot. on the commit thing on channel 7 they made a little slip, nick said that he will more than likely end up at liberty i quess they assumed he had gave them a verbal. several more schools have stepped up their recruiting the past few weeks. but the fact that LU is only 50 miles away and run a 3-4 which nick has played in for about 10 years makes them pretty hard to beat. also the plans they have for the next few years makes it a great opurtunity. any of yall that live near lynchburg and have no plans for friday the 28th, come on out to jefferson forest high school at 7. should be a heck of a high school football game jf is good and we should be real solid ourself. get a chance to look at 2 flame recruits nick an dustin phelps at wr/tb. take care

To echo everyone else, congrats to the young man, and welcome aboard!

there are great things in store for LU FB and, speaking on behalf of JoePa, I wouldn't be offended at all if we started to become known as "Linebacker U".

first of all i want to thank everyone for the warm welcome. nick is very excited about coming to liberty. of course i'm a little biased but i think nick will be a good fit here. even though the plan is to redshirt him his first year i'm looking forward to hanging out at the games and meeting other fans. with us only being 50 miles or so away not only ( in my opinion ) is LU getting a good football player but the fan base will grow alot also. the plans that coach rocco and his staff have discussed with us about the programs future should make all the LU fans excited. on a different front is there a good area to park the motorhome at home games so we can start setting up camp sigmo. don't really know what is and isn't allowed. don't want to break any rules. lol thanks

i am very happy to see a roanoker in an LU uniform. as a roanoke native im pumped to see nick commit. there has always been a lot of talent there that LU has overlooked, but coach rocco has been different and has recuited the commonwealth very well. weclome to nick and his family!

If Sigmo gets to bring his camper, I want to bring mine, too! Tailgating will take on a whole new meaning, once we factor in RV's.
