The Redskins are down to two candidates for the vacant tight end position according to a source with knowledge of the situation, with a decision expected early next week.

Bill Khayat, who served as Washington's offensive quality control coach the past two seasons, is being given strong consideration, but head coach Jim Zorn also interviewed Scott Wachenheim, the assistant head coach at Liberty University, for the position last week, according to the source. The position became open when former Joe Gibbs assistant Rennie Simmons retired (Simmons contract was up as well, according to sources).

and...Zorn's connections with Wach:
Wachenheim has no NFL coaching experience but spent two years under Zorn at Utah State (1992-1993) as an assistant when Zorn was the offensive coordinator there. Wachenheim is a former offensive lineman at Air Forvce and longtime offensive line coach, who has had stints at Rice, Arkansas and Colorado. Wachenheim has served as Liberty's offensive coordinator since arriving at the school in 2006.

Nice find. I'd hate to lose Coach Wach. His results at LU have been unprecedented.

Although not exactly the topic of this thread, it's related.
Coach Wimberly IS going to Buffalo. Can you spell "snow shovel"?

Post: Wach Down and Skalaski Up. "you just showed how incredibly stupid you are".

Less than four months ago.

Wach lost respect from several coaches after the WCU Game and O-Line played for their respect for Coach Rocco not Wach. Charlie better recruiter for O-lineman anyway. Too bad we have lost some players because of Wach's style.

Wach is a good techical coach but plays a strangle mental games with his lineman. That will not work with millionaire pro-players either.

Charlie good for another year at LU, as the new Offensive Coordinator?

OK, let's not get personal.

I still haven't seen anywhere whether or not Zorn has made his decision on the TE coaching opening.

Oh, please. This guy pretended to be a student and started spreading rumors about one of our coaches by name just to satisfy some sort of grudge. This is what's known as reaping the whirlwind.

I just wish the world would know how ridiculous some of the stuff said in that post were. I just can't say it.

Yankton Press & Dakotan wrote:In other moves announced by Buffalo coach Turner Gill on Friday, the Bulls promoted Danny Barrett to offensive coordinator and hired Robert Wimberly as linebackers coach.

Barrett previously served as quarterbacks coach and takes over the coordinator job from Gill, who spent the previous two years in the dual role. Barrett is a former Canadian Football League quarterback.

Wimberly spent the past five seasons at Liberty University where he coached linebackers and was director of high school relations.

Is anyone else concerned that we could loose two of the LB commits. They are both from Coach Wemberly's recruiting area! Va Beach/ Fla areas.

Kahlil Mack
Demetrius Ward

It is always possible. But at this late stage it doesn't happen much.

And I believe Mack is a Skalaski recruit.

Coach Wilt was the one who recruited Ward. Mack was a Wimbo recruit and Skalaski took over after Wimbo left.

Mack is following Wimberly to Buffalo. Hard to blame him since it is not only the coach who initially recruited him, but it is an opportuinity to play at the FBS level. Of course the risk he is taking is that it might mean riding the bench at the FBS level.

I have a hard time believing a South Florida kid has any idea what Buffalo winters are really like. But I wish the kid nothing but the best. I certainly like his new head coach.

Official - Wach is gone
