Coach Rocco's staff did a terrific job working Florida for their first class and they appear to be working the Sunshine State hard once again for 2007. And guess what? H-burg's favorite coach is this kid's head coach ... Morgan Hout!

Campanelli a model for Sports Dads everywhere

The News was contacted by Janice and CJ Campanelli, wife and son of Carl Campanelli, who wanted to show their appreciation for their sports dad.
Above is a poem written by CJ, who is currently coached by his dad, among others on the American Legion 17-Under baseball team, and has been coached by his dad all his life.
“He really influenced me a lot,” said CJ. “He started me off with sports. He surrounded me with sports.
Carl has impacted not just his son, but other youths by helping to start a West Boca travel baseball team and the West Boca Bulldogs youth football team.
“Any kind of sport makes my husband’s eyes light up,” said Janice. “For seven years he has rushed home from work, beaten down by the pressures of the adult world. His energy would be rejuvenated as soon as he walked on the field ... Carl does it all for the kids. He will pick them up and take them home when their parents are not able. I hope he knows that those little boys, and know-it-all teens will some day grow into men. Men that will be better fathers because of their experiences on and off the field with him.”
“[Carl], CJ and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts, not only because of your love and devotion to CJ, but also for all the other boys. So, when life gets to you and you don’t feel like you are getting anywhere, know that there is a boy somewhere that will never forget your kindness and support. You have brought respect and love to the game that sometimes feels lost.”

My Dad, My Hero

As I bent down and gripped the sand
I said “don’t worry dad. I have a plan.”
All eyes were waiting to see,
If this kid could get a strike on me.
I dug my cleats in and choked up on my bat,
It’s a really good one, my dad saw to that.
All my life “big C” has been there,
He has always made sure that things have been fair.
Hitting the ball is important to me,
But without my dad there, what would it be?
He’s been my coach since I’ve been four
No other son could ask for more.
He drives me to practice and always sticks around,
No other dad like this could be found.
My dad does more than regular stuff,
I don’t tell him, I have to try and be tough.
Well Dad, this message is directed at you,
I wanted to tell you, that there are only a few.
Who would sit at my practice in the hot sun,
And think I’m with CJ, and this is fun.
My hope in life and what I want the most
and “yes” this is where I begin to boast.
A wife as kind and good as my mom,
and a dad, who always tries to be calm.
So when dad, you start kicking the sand,
and thinking when will CJ, act like a man.
Know that, all of the things you do and say,
will have that big pay off one day.
There will be a boy running around,
That has my same typical frown.
And say, hey grandpa “why is daddy so mean”
And you will answer, “you’re part of the team.”
Listen and please be aware,
your father knows best and will always be fair.
I raised him and I should know,
It may feel like sometimes he’s your foe.
But he loves you and you will turn out great,
just listen to him and you can determine your fate.

Written by Olympic Heights High School student, and American Legion 17-Under player CJ Campanelli, for his father Carl.

You have to be a quality kid to write something like that for your father.
