HA! like this is way too early but Ive already ruined the GW thread.
4 Questions
Is this the best team ever if....
1) If LU Beats Elon, and makes the playoffs?
2) If LU Beats Elon, but misses the playoffs?
3) If LU loses to Elon by a small margin?
4) If LU gets blown out by Elon?

That worked out well, I wait once and somebody posts something more extreme than me. Wonderful.
1) Yes
2) No
3) No
4) No
I will make a bunch of invalid statements.
Presby is very similar to a DII school
We played 2 DII games
We played a bunch of lower tier DIA competition (BS)
We lost to the 3rd place Patriot League team
We beat the 2nd worst SoCon team
We beat the 2nd worst MVC team, who people thought was good, but found out later was bad, but still say theyre good since people thought they were good when we beat them.
We lost to a DI transitional team coached by a joke
Beating Elon makes us better than last years team and in the same sentence with the best from the past
Having never made the playoffs, couple that with a win over a top 20 team(what they will be if we beat them), and the arguement can really be made.

This is probably a pretty unpopular view, but I think last year's team was better. Just my opinion though.

That's the only argument I can believe as to a team being better than this year's.
I'm thinking last year's may have been better and this year's has the chance to be more successful.

I was just trying to be funny with my quick answer
it's debatable...I cant think of the exact year but it was around Sam's few years they had some really really good seasons and one stood out more than others.....but if we make the playoffs then IMO this would be the best team
These are all emotional questions...it's like when we lost a few weeks ago and people were talking about how we had NO chance to make playoffs and now the emotion of a victory we're finding ways to suggest we'll make it...this is the latest team and its one of our better teams so it's easy to say yes without giving it much thought

You're thinking of the 97 team. I've already made my case for this year's team being better.

Keep in mind that we played much tougher schedules back in the Late '80s and Early '90s. So I would lean toward some of the Early Sam years alongside the past two years. Facing very different schedules makes it tough to compare.

Also played some teams that were much weaker than the teams we played this year. Norfolk St and CSU in 97 would lose by 20 to Youngstown, Coastal, and WCU of this year. Norfolk St was in their first year of I-AA and CSU was a I-AA non-scholarship team (think St. Francis from last year). Yes, App St, Cal Poly, and Hampton were very good teams, but there were just as many weak teams that year as this year and last year.

I still dont like it
9-2 with losses to 2 top 25 teams and 2 wins over top 25 teams
(as of right now) 9-2 with wins over 2 6-5 teams and losses to a 3rd place Patriot team and a DI transitional team.

No, 97 was too late...I'm thinking of 89 or 90....the best year EG had

Yeah going off memory is hard
SJ its impossible to say though that a certain team in 97 or whatever year would lose by 20 to whoever...it's like us talking about how well Babe Ruth would do today...it's all subjective

89: 7-3
Wins over three DII schools. Win over an I-A school. Four Division I wins. Losses to Youngstown, UCF, and MSU.
90: 7-4
Wins over two DII schools. I can't remember if Samford or DSU were DI or DII then or not.

In some instances it is. You can take how good the SoCon is, top to bottom, and safely say they'd win by 20 over the worst teams in Division I-AA at the time, which is what CSU was.

Both Samford & Delaware State were I-AA.
That UCF team featured a QB named Culpepper and that was back when Youngstown State was a powerhouse along the lines of Appy today. I don't remember who the DIIs were we played back then. But in the Late '80s and Early '90s often times the top DIIs were a step above the I-AAs. Like I said earlier, it is tough to compare eras.

But you can compare what they did in big games and you can compare the eggs they threw up.
97 they beat the teams they were supposed to, and beat 2 ranked teams
08 they lost to Presby and Lafayette and beat NO ONE of significance

Can somebody look up Morgan Hout's last year? It was Eric Green's junior year, and we finished 8-2 or 8-3. Can somebody look up who we beat and who we lost to? Hout got coach of the year that year, as I recall.

Yeah...it's right around then I'm talking about....but I really thought it was Sam's first year EG's Sr year where they found creative ways to get him the ball and he had his best year

This team may not be the best, but if the beat Elon Saturday they will be the most succesful in school history.
