Teams to Watch

These are a few teams that could do us a huge favor. Expanding on what was already said by Chris.

Georgia Southern
(5-5) at Furman (7-3)

Furman needs to lose. This would not be that big of an upset in my eyes. GSU has 5 losses. One is to Georgia, three of the others were to Elon(lost by 2), Wofford (lost by 1) and to Appy State (lost by 1). So GSU could easily beat Furman. This puts Furman out of the Hunt for sure. They are coming off their worst loss of the year, to a team we aslo need help from, Samford.

Samford vs. Wofford

Again, Samford is not that bad of a team. Samford lost to Elon (by 6), they lost to Appy State (by 9). The bad loss they had was last week against Furman. The game will be played in Alabama, which could only help. the only thing about this game is, even if Samford wins, we need Wofford to lose again.

JMU vs. William & Mary

We need the number one Dukes, to beat the Tribe. It will be homecoming in Harrisonburg and the Dukes have a good chance to prevail. (I sure would like to have played William & Mary this year). Hopefully we can get that series going again.

Southern Illinois
(2 losses) vs. South Dakota

It will be senior day for the Salukies.(sp?) This loss for South Dakota will put them out for good, and leaves another spot vaccant for the Flames. Southern Illinois should win this game.

These are matchups that Lang has pointed out in a blog, that is on another thread. I just wanted everyone realize that all of these teams winning is not a long shot. I also wanted to give people a thread to talk about the upcoming games, and our slim chances.

with a win sat followed by a win against Elon, our shot at getting a spot in the playoffs is not such a long shot anymore...

Let's not forget these games:

Liberty (2 losses) vs Gardner-Webb (11/15) and Elon (11/22)

If we don't win both, none of the others matter.

We havent forgotten that we have two games left. Nor have we looked past these games, merely assumed that everyone reading would understand that if we were to lose it would be over for us.

If we win out what are our chances?.........................

Looking at who has to lose, and who has to beat them, and our GPI.

I would give it a 6% chance.

If we can do that and still keep my post count. I gotta have my 500 plus posts still. That's what I have been working so hard for!

Out of the five teams that had to win yesterday, four of them did. With the exception being Samford. Even with a loss next week, Wofford should be in. So CONSIDERING that we beat Elon *oldflame*, what other matchups might we be looking for next week.

UT Martin
E Kentucky (I know OVC should be a 1 bid league, but UTM loses and they dont have enough wins to even be put in the mix

Richmond
William & Mary (I think W+M would be out with 4 losses, Richmond would have 4 losses as well with a loss, but 3 of them are in the top 10)

New Hampshire
Maine (NH may have a better resume even with 4 losses, so wed need them to win and knock Maine out)

Elon
Liberty (This is obviously an important game, but a squeaker may allow Elon to stay in even if they lose)

(Stretch Game - doesnt hurt to knock out those below us)

Furman
Wofford

We want UTM to win. even if the lose its a stretch to say the OVC would have two teams.
We want Richmond to beat the tribe W&M will most definitly be out of the mix with a loss.
We are now UNH fans because if maine wins they will most likely take our spot in the playoffs.
Furman losing would be nice just to make sure they are all the way out.

You definitely want Richmond to beat W&M, Richmond has a nice resume and would add to it with a win. W&M is about in your position.

If William and Mary wins, do they get in?

Posted: November 17th, 2008, 5:00 pm
by jcmanson
Probably, but the thing is we won't get in ahead of them if they win. I could see them winning and NOT making it, but that would mean we would be out too. We need to win, Richmond needs to win, UNH needs to win, and we need to pray, ALOT.

With the 2 CAA games, the winner is in, hands down. Richmond could sneak in with a loss, less of a chance with NH, but still possible.

More so than wins, though, we need blowouts. We need teams to just not show up and get dominated.

Also, UTM losing completly knocks them out because of Div I wins. After looking at the polls I dont know if EKU can make a run, so that conference is a 1 bid league

Posted: November 17th, 2008, 7:32 pm
by Chris Lang
If EKU loses, it'll be 7-4, so no at-large for the Colonels. Jacksonville State would have a very similar resume to a 10-2 LU ... one real quality win (Tennessee State for JSU; Elon for LU). The difference -- JSU had no bad losses, Liberty has Presby; but LU went undefeated and won a conference title, JSU will have finished third in their league.

I'm really starting to think Richmond is in regardless of what happens Saturday.
