This center from Texas made what was interpreted as a racial slur after Obama won and was kicked off the team.

I know Center is a position of question for us next year, even SJ said so...

So would it be smart if we went after him?

What he apparently said was something like, Obama won so get your guns ready or something to that effect. It was said on his facebook. He apologized to his teammates and many of them still support him. He said that he meant it in a different way (probably in a way referring to losing gun rights).

I think it would be smart to at least give him a call...

What connection does he have to us? Went to HS in Texas, College in Texas....

On top of that, bringing in a guy who said an "undisclosed racist remark" the first year of Obama's term woouldn't be the best PR statement in the world. Giving a guy a second chance is one thing, but going after him without any connections can only bring trouble.

Just playing Devil's Advocate.

What connections to Liberty and/or Lynchburg did the following players have:

Zach Davis
Pat Dickerson
Kent Hicks
Dwight Brewington
David Minaya

yeah I mean, he probably has no connection. But I just figured it might be worth making a phone call. People deserve second chances...

How many of those guys made a racist remark about Obama the day after he was elected President? How many of those guys made ESPN because their team dismissed them over an issue that was that sensitive to the general public?

Besides, the bad PR we would get over this would be unprecidented.

There are better prospects for LU. Maybe not as talented, but the amount of baggage he would bring should certainly offset that. Im not saying we avoid all people with problematic pasts, but theres a certain point where the timing and severity of this incident need to be carefully looked into before we throw our name in the mix

Ok, I can go with that reasoning. The "no connection" excuse is one that I wanted to question.

Oh I understand what you were trying to say, I just think the combination of his prior actions as described by the media and no actual connection give us the answer as to whether we should ever go after him.

Would you believe he has connections to members of this board (and I'm not talking about yours truly).

He'll be at Texas State in nothing flat.

Why do people think that what they put on Facebook is some inside communication.

SJ needs to confirm this as our leader before this can be believed.

Believe it or not, Ryan Jackson played with Burnette in Wimberley during the two years they lived in TX. The two of them were asked to eat pre-game meals with the high school team and coaches at the time to "prepare them" for what was to come!

well even though it would be negative press, I still think it would be worth a phone call!

And by next season people will not remember this anyways. It wasn't even that big of a story to begin with...

I really don't care what the kid said, double standard is being applied. Jesse Jackson should have stepped down for what he said about Obama during the campaign. I am tired of PC , if you are going to have it then have it all around

Texas State can have him. Liberty wouldn't touch this guy, even if he was the Longhorn starter.

We could use him.....

Besides one bad comment.....what else has he done wrong?

We have players on our own team that have done far worse..

how in the world was this a racial slur??

EDIT: I take it back, I was just basing it off of what luke said...this is what he said on his facebook:
all the hunters gather up, we have a n$%&er in the whitehouse"
http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2008/1 ... updates-a/

that would be a slur and completely out of line...no reason to bring that crap here

I didn't hear that he said that. I heard the part about the farmers and their guns or something, but nothing about the N word. Well, even though he did say that, couldn't we give someone a second chance. I mean, we have given guys chances before that are far bigger risks than this...

why? I mean, it was just an idea. I didn't think it would happen and it probably won't. But I still think its worth a shot.

why should we take a shot? do we really need to bring that kind of negative press towards our school?

I doubt anybody in the football office is even giving this guy a second thought...

Luke, either...

1) You heard something from someone as inside info on this guy and are hiding it from everyone, and not doing a good job.

or

2) You are just convinced your right on what appears to be a pretty lost cause.

Either way, I'd stop before the F-Bomb launchers get locked and loaded.
