Who's going? or Where are you meeting? When are you leaving?

Or even better, where are you parking?

If you can make the trip you will definitely enjoy the experience of gameday in Lexington. I would get their early enough for the parade if possible.

Have you been to a VMI game before? Nearly their entire alumni base has those stickers.

VP Cheney coming to town

Here's an excerpt from a Flames Club email we received yesterday:

To accommodate Vice President Dick Cheney’s visit to VMI this Saturday before the Flames football game, we are adjusting our plan for the Flames Football Fan Tent. We will no longer be located at Crozet Hall on the VMI campus. Washington & Lee University (next door to VMI’s campus) has graciously agreed to give us space at the corner of Main Street (Route 11) and Jefferson Street. This convenient location is only two blocks south of Foster Stadium, but you’ll want to plan accordingly because there is no parking in the vicinity. Game time for Liberty vs. the Keydets is 1:30 p.m. The Flames Football Fan Tent will open at 11:30 a.m. as previously scheduled. Look for the big red spider tent to meet up with all the Flames fans!

Cheney is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. on the VMI Parade Ground, and the plan is for most traffic in Lexington to be shut down from 9 a.m. to noon. Parking is at a premium on a regular Saturday, and the situation is made even more difficult with the special requirements put in place by the Secret Service. If you are coming to the game, we strongly recommend that you allow plenty of time to get to the stadium. VMI offers satellite parking at an old K-Mart (directions below) and a shuttle bus to the stadium. After you arrive at the stadium, the Flames Club tent is only a two-block walk toward downtown.

:(

Here's your best bet:

Leave Lynchburg at 10:30.

Eat lunch in Lexington at 11:30.

You're done by 12:15-12:30.

The roads will be open again. You may get a parking spot in town. If not, it gives you plenty of time to take the shuttles and everything.

Unless you eat fast food, it takes forever to eat in Lexington especially at Applebees or Ruby Tuesday. Trust me on this one.

Not the place I'm eating. Last time I went we were in and out in 20-25 minutes.

Sweet. Thanks. I'll make sure I leave really early. Just hope my roommates will wake up early enough to come with me.

Lexington also has a KFC buffet, which is right on the way.

Does anyone know if the Flames Club tent is open to non-members, maybe at a premium price. If so, is the food decent? My car is heading out of the Burg at 10:30-11:00 and it would be nice to meet up with other fans.

Your Liberty Flames Football team will kick-off their game at VMI at 1:30 on Saturday, seeking to win their Big South-record tenth consecutive conference game! The Flames (7-2) will also try extend their program-record Top 25 appearances to 10 straight weeks with a victory. You can get all the details on the game by visiting the Game Day Central page at http://www.libertyflames.com/index.cfm?PID=15005.

Your student tickets can also be purchased directly from VMI for only $10 at the link https://tkt.xosn.com/tickets/TicketHome ... T_ID=41750.

We also have limited seats available on the Student Flames Club bus which will depart from Campus East at 11:00. There is no charge to ride the bus, and reservations are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis by e-mail at SFC@Liberty.edu or by phone at 434-582-CLUB (2582). The bus will return at approximately 6:30 following the game.

You may also want to enjoy the pre-game meal from 11:30 to 1:00 in the Flames Club Tent for just $10, with a menu that includes fried chicken, BBQ pork, coleslaw, mac & cheese, baked beans, pasta salad, rolls, and cookies. Kids aged 12 and under are $5, and kids age 5 and under are free. Admission is limited to the first 100 persons paying in advance or at the event. For advance purchase, visit Tickets at www.LibertyFlames.com, call 434-582-SEAT, or visit the Flames Ticket Office. The Flames Club Tent will be located on the adjacent Washington & Lee campus at the corner of Main Street (Route 11) and Jefferson Street. This convenient location is only two blocks south (towards downtown) of Foster Stadium, but there is no parking in the vicinity so you’ll want to plan accordingly.

If you choose to drive with some friends, you will want to arrive early since traffic and parking is a major challenge at VMI for any Football game, but Vice-President Cheney will be visiting and this will result in additional congestion. It is recommended that you park in the old K-Mart parking lot (see map and directions below) and take the complimentary shuttle to the stadium. The shuttle begins at 9:00 and will drop you off at the stadium and just a couple of blocks from the Flames Club Tent.
