Its still a few weeks away, but we all know that the majority of students will already be gone and attendence will be extremely low. Is the school going to do anything to encourage students to stay for the game?

The dorms will be open for free. They're working on what to do for food.

I'm just thinking outside the box here, but what if they offered open dorms the night before. On Campus kids always get excited about that crap. Maybe they would all stay for that and then come to the game the next day.

it would be better if they had open dorms the day of the game. It would take away from tailgating, but more kids would do an indoor type tailgate. I know they are encouraging SLD's and RA's to stay for the game, but they need to do something to make kids want to stay. Keeping the dorms open for free is just allowing them to stay.

I thought they were doing that for the vote day, like 3 hours or something

Also, its not as big a deal to most as you think

no one would come. Why would kids stay an extra day to eat nasty food they eat year round when the other option is going home for moms home cooked meals? It would have to be something the school is willing to spend a little bit of money for, or get sponsors. If dominoes would donate pizzas or something. Not the Rot giving us Rot food.

I think it would require the school to invest in it to keep students here, but it would definitely be an investment. An empty student side is going to be embarassing. We need the bill packed to have some sort of home field advantage.

Also, they need to start stressing to the students the fact that were going to have to beat Elon to get to the playoffs. Make the students care starting now.

Bingo

Start convo announcements NOW
Stress the importance of that game
Dont let Johnny Moore say anything about football
Facebook groups

Providing food isnt something you would do to keep people here, simply to take away an excuse a kid may have to leave(although sodexho doesnt necessarily do that).

Here's the problem: It's tough to promote a game when there's three more to be played before it. If we don't win those next three, the Elon game doesn't matter.

We assume we win. We promote any game like we normally would, but use this week (@Presby) to hone in on what we need to do to make the playoffs. You show the possibility of a win and youre in scenario and almost circle it on the map without making GW unimportant. This week IMO would be the best, simply bc less people would make the drive to Clinton. Promote VMI and GW as normal, but on top of that you throw in a second announcement after it. That way you dont take away VMI or GW, but youre able to stress over 3 weeks the possible importance of that game

I don't know. If the students can't get excited about the homecoming game while they are on campus I think it will be a very tough trick to get them to stay at school when they could be going home. I don't think the significance of the game would matter. Pizza and dorms won't do it. Maybe a cash payout, but that's about it!

ask professors to give extra credit for game attendance. one letter grade on their finals. ok, i'm joking, but whoever brought up this topic is correct,
An empty student side is going to be embarassing
if LU students will be gone, then offer free admission for local high schools, local youth groups, local marching bands. something.

This is what I was thinking. The students that are going to stay will stay regardless. You might be able to convince 2-300 to stay, but that won't make a difference. For this game, we should really reach out to the community. For example, allow the first 5,000 high school students wearing red in for free.

That's a great idea.

One time when I was a freshman the cafeteria had bowls of milkshakes during lunch. You'd just go up and scoop out the milkshake into a cup. I think it was the best day of my 4 years of college. I drank so many milkshakes.

Just playing devil's advocate, but how do you handle the things being said in the stands then? People already complain about the stuff that is said when we keep it clean. Now imagine we add a bunch of non-Liberty high school kids and who knows what is said. I'm not against the idea, I'm just wanting people on here to work through the problems before deciding something is a perfect idea.

Interesting point. However, one day I think the program hopes to pull in a lot of the community every single week. So although it may give visitors the wrong impression of an LU student, that's life I suppose.

unless this has changed since I was on campus, the dorms are open for free during thanksgiving break anyways...the only time they charge students is during Christmas and summer breaks.

probably devoting too much time to thinking about Elon attendance and should focus on the Presbyterian game, however... this is on the Elon site:
Thanksgiving break begins on Tuesday, Nov. 25, following evening classes
it seems they will have classes on Mon & Tues Nov 24 & 25. it's possible that they could have a larger crowd at our home game. :(

OK guys, let’s not freak out. We’ve been averaging 14,000+ fans this year. I think it’s safe to say 7,000 of those are not students. So, those 7,000 should still be there. I would imagine we will still probably get about 2500 students to the game if not more which would take us to 9500. We just need to be able to grab 3,000+ from other venues whether it be church’s, schools, LU students, etc. Also, Elon will bring a decent amount of fans so we will still be over 12,000 pretty easily. It’s just finding those extra 2-3000 fans to replace the students who won’t be there.

not freaking out, just saying... and i should have been clearer in my comment, they could possibly have a larger *student* presence than we do at a home game. and we all know just how enthusiastic the 5-6000 on the Baptist side can be. :boring:

It appears your intel was on the mark.
