No Band at Homecoming???

Just heard from a former student who is at LU that the band won't be marching halftime at Homecoming. I know TAIT is in concert, but personally I think it's a slap in the face of all the band alumni who are driving down to Lynchburg -- not to mention all the band members who work their tails off to learn the show. Homecoming is the biggest game of the season, and the band won't even get to show the alumni what they've been working on.
I know most people on this board don't care, but I'm a little disappointed. And this will probably be the first time Iwon't sit in the stands through the halftime performance.

Are they getting to play pregame? Most of the time in situations like this, the band plays their show pregame.

It didn't sound like it. I'll have to bug him tomorrow and find out for sure, but it sounded like all they were going to do was play in the stands.
{edit to add} As I understand it right now, all they're planning on being able to do is the National Anthem. Kerr is fighting for more, but the way I understand it (and I"m getting it long distance, so if someone there can set me right I'd appreciate it), they won't be doing the show at all.

I'm sure they'll work something out. SJ's example of pre-game would be fine.
I was in the band in 97 and 98.

They obviously will be marching in the parade. But I know I would certainly appreciate them playing pregame. My kids love the band.

Are you coming?
also
Is that 89 jersey coming too? We can live without that, I think.

I am coming with the entire Sly clan in tow this year.
As for the jersey, I thought your avatar was a tribute to it.

No - However that could be done if youd like
The idea was supposed to be a wifebeater converted to a jersey, belonging to our CCU Alumnus.
However a tribute to your jersey may require more effort. Maybe not I just need a picture of it.

Their halftime show is great. The Baptist side loves it, the student loves it and since I went to the CCU game last Saturday, the CCU fans loved it too (which by the way, our band blew their band off the field!!). They seem to be much bigger this year and the brass section is AMAZing!!

As the board's resident band nerd I figure I ought to make an appearance.
The band has done a real amazing job this year. a vast majority of the players are freshmen and sophomores. As for the brass...the thing there that helps is that we have 30 (yes I said 30) trumpets. but they are complimented by a large low brass (including I think 18 trombones and 10 tubas)

Sounds pretty solid...
...good brass with no holes.

A lot of alums come to see the band, this is a shame. No offense but I doubt many Alums are coming to see Tait.

I'm an Alum and I'd rather see Tait.

Frankly Im sure Tait would be awesome and all but if I was coming back Id want to see the band (and Ive already taken into account that I am in the band). I mean couldnt they have worked out a concert some other time during the weekend?

A change of pace is nice from time to time. I like this idea. It will also bring a few more locals to the game... Smart marketing.

Bro, kinda like I'm hiding from the election polls right now...this would be a poll you wouldnt want to see. I think pregame is a perfect time to welcome in the homecomer's

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing the bandshow during pregame. I think that's the ultimate solution, plus I think it would get the crowd reved up for the game.

Im not too sure the students like the show. You cant tell whats going on usually. When the band plays during the game, timeouts, different plays and such, then I know the students for the most part like it.
I dont think there is that much of a difference between the show being during pre game and halftime.
plus, the stupid argument, TAIT is an alumnus, and Im sure hed rather see TAIT than the marching band.

Tait is obviously a very special situation where the school is going for a bigger draw, but I think the band needs to be treated as fairly as possible. Let them play the pre-game. That is certainly reasonable and is often done elswhere. They have worked hard and have been a great part of the LU experience at the stadium this year. After all, it is homecoming! I don't think anyone should take that event away from them.

If you have an opinion, let the powers that be know how you feel ... especially those of you without ties to the band. Your voices will be especially valued since you have no vested interest other than maximizing the experience.
Count me among those who wants a pregame band presence. And frankly, if it works out logistically (amongst the parade and other activities) I'd love to see the band be involved in the players arriving at the FOC. Yeah, I'm still beating that dead horse.

It may not be my place to say, but let me understand something. The LU marching band will not, for what ever reason, be marching at halftime at a home football game, a homecoming game? Seriously? Forget what Woody Hayes said, "The band is worth 3 points." This is the first time I've ever heard of a marching band not playing a home game because it had something better to do than support it's football team. I'll bet App State's band never misses a home game. If I was coach Rocco I'd be..........livid.
