This game has all the makings of a trap game. Back home from a grueling 3 game road trip against a team we should unload on. Any thoughts?

That being said...MAINTAINING FOCUS seems to be a top priority with Coach Rocco, and I do not anticipate a problem.

Letdown is always a concern, but this LU team worries me less than any other that I've seen. I love what Coach Rocco has done with the Flames in the past few seasons, and I'm looking forward to more!

The thing is, this team understands better than any of us what they MUST do. Theat makes a trap less likely. I'm not saying we can't lose, but this team is very well coached!

Thanks for getting this thread started, fumbles. This is a team that looked like a contender after two weeks but that has since gone in the tank over the last three games being led by freshmen at QB & RB. Since we haven't seen them play before, who knows what to expect?

I stand by last weeks prediction that the offense has worked out some of its "issues" that caused nervous uncertainty, especially the O-line. The free subing has given us 7-8 well played players that seem to be getting better each week.

The questions remain with the defense. Which team shows up? At times they look brilliant, other times like a Jr. Varsity high school team. They are too good to be playing like this.

I know that each game can be the "trap" game because big upsets happen all the time. It doesn't mean that the loser is a bad team, just had a bad game. Stop the madness, any week can be the "trap" week.

Interesting thought:

What is the difference between the way GW threw on us the 2nd half 2 years ago, W+M game, Elon, YSU, and last night? I mean each individual game.

Maybe thats why Im so ehhhh on this teams chances, because I lump all of these bad defensive performances together(Yardage wise) and assume we havent made the adjustments overall in our Cover 2 scheme to be effective against quality teams. It seems every quality game will have to be won by a shootout IMO, but Im probably wrong, so Id like to see the differences.

Saturday was just different ... hard to explain. Elon was doing a ton of quick-hit passing. Two-step drop, throw, done. Youngstown State did the same thing. The Penguins realized the run wasn't going to work, and instead threw 2-yard outs and used that as the run game. The problem with the Cover 2 is that there is little jamming/contact at the line of scrimmage, so those short throws are always going to be there. You rely on tackling at that point. If you don't tackle, you have Marquell Pittman going 78 yards for a touchdown after getting through the initial wave of defenders.

At Coastal, MacDowall was just elusive, a lot more than I thought he would be. The D-line needed to do a better job getting pressure on him. A couple of times, a LU linebacker had him, but he just managed to shake away. A couple of times, guys slipped, like Hursky when he had MacDowall inside the Coastal 5.

When the quarterback has 10 seconds to find a receiver, someone is going to be open downfield. That's how Coastal was getting its yards. That and Sitton busting through the line of scrimmage. Not a banner day for the D-line. I'm talking to Clark today about it, and I'll have some of his thoughts in tomorrow's notebook.

Watching the game on MASN I thought that the D Line played adequate but not great. The pressure on the QB was there but he eluded it many times. So I give some of the credit to McDowell. It seems like our soft coverage and poor tackling were the issues. Coverage was okay on the deep ball but the short passes were always there for coastal and they ate us alive.

For the Liberty football team -- it's welcome home. They haven't played in Williams Stadium in more than a month. Not that that hurt their record.
