(Hey you said Find another institution, so it doesn't matter that we all know Miami is shady :D )
Thanks. The 2 cases seem eerily similar.
Nice sarcasm  but a felony is a felony so yea, it's similar[/quote]

No sarcasm. A felony along with a misdemeanor. A 3 week suspension. Coach quoted as "he's done everything we've asked him to do."

It's a stretch for elevate Asa's mistake to the level of "resisting a police officer with violence and battery on a police officer". Give me a break?

While you're comparing Schools .... If Notre Dame can survive their coach's sideline rants (f-bombs) .... we'll be fine with Rocco's, "Tony Dungy" coaching style

Just a follow-up on this. Buchanan went into a pre-trial diversion program for his charges. It's possible something like this is being worked up for Chapman, although I don't know exactly what his previous history is like. Seems like that would be a good scenario for everybody involved.

I had a 13-year-old student ask me today, "Why is your college letting that guy who got caught with drugs play? Isn't Liberty a Christian school?
Just wait until ESPN gets ahold of it....
Sorry to disappoint you, but ESPN could give a rat's behind about what's going on here. It's really not national news.
True, but you can bet the farm that if Jerry were still alive MSDNC would have had this story all over the place, including the Bull Dyke Maddow Show.

Then DR couldn't say this was a victimless crime and Asa hurt DR more then anyone. We would all be victimized having to watch her!

So let's not be so quick to act like this doesn't happen elsewhere. Now the difference of course were that the charges were dropped, so if the charges get dropped for Asa we can all move on, if not well then we will just recycle this thread!
You answered yourself. The charges were dropped BEFORE they were reinstated. I'd like for you to find me another institution where an athlete was reinstated with felony charges still pending.

Whatever happened to, "If it's Christian, it should be better..." We can all find schools like FSU that would be down to water boys if paroles were revoked, but aren't we supposed to be held to a higher standard? If LU faculty had a felony drug possession charge pending, they wouldn't see the front door of LU ever again, whether it was dropped or not. Just because Asa can play football we suddenly lose our standards?

Drop it so we don't have to be reminded of this horrible decision and what damage it has done to our reputation

What other institution would reinstate a player with a cocaine felony charge pending? Guise it as God's grace or a new Christian commitment. Now we are asked to drop it....it was dropped by those responsible for such a horrible black eye on all associated with the University.

BUMP

Anybody see Asa's halftime interview on MASN or the Flames network with Brandon PIcket? Asa spoke softly and sounded very polite and respectful. Everything was "Yes, sir" and "No, sir."

I believe this was mentioned in the other thread and that the interview was done before the season? Not sure didnt see the interview. But since he said Yes sir and No sir then I say we bump the coke charge down to a misdemeanor. And obviously being polite and respectful means toss out the marijuana charge.

You know that's right. Or they could go the route of not having players with outstanding warrants get pulled over and have narcotics found in their car. But if you have one the other is a must!

We have a really good PR firm. I just wonder how much input is being provided or how their counsel is being received.

And Haize, that cat is out of the bag. We're discussing how we handle the current situation in light of past events.

If we are using a PR firm, either

1/ they are not that good
2/ they are not providing enough input
3/ no one is listening

I just don't understand why they would air this interview. That's where the PR advise (or thought in general would be good). I understand it was prob taped in the summer but why would you want to bring up the one guy on the team who had a major controversy following him and not address it.

It's like yeah I know it's been a few weeks and the Asa thing has died down a little so lets go ahead and stoke that controversy again.

I was just saying how they could avoid events like this in the future. I try not to live in the past.
I agree With SUM. They do their screen name justice
