Knucklevision wrote:LU Football - “Unfinished Business“

The Liberty football team accomplished last year's goal of going from "Good to Great," going from 6-and-5 to 8-and-3 with two of those losses by a combined 4 points. This year's motto is "Unfinished Business." At LU's Media Day Sunday, all the talk was about the Flames goal of making it to the Football Championship Series playoffs. Despite winning the Big South, LU was left out. Danny Rocco, LU Coach - "I think any time you have that bullseye on your chest, we're the target of everybody in the league. So but I think our team is up for that challenge and excited about that challenge. And then hopefully we'll be able to go out and earn that again and in doing so win enough football games so we can take the next step for our program and make it into the FCS playoffs."

Liberty quarterback Brock Smith will lead the Flames’ offense for the third straight year. The All-Big South selection threw for 2,226 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.

No matter how many times someone told them they had no shot of making the 16-team NCAA FCS playoff field last November, members of Liberty’s football team refused to believe it to be true.

A day after the Flames routed Gardner-Webb 31-0 to win their sixth straight game and their first Big South championship, players gathered in the lounge at the Williams Football Operations Center. As each name was unveiled, hearts sunk a little bit more. First it was New Hampshire, which won just seven games. Then it was Eastern Illinois, the second-place team from the lightly regarded Ohio Valley Conference.

The 16th school was revealed. Liberty was not in the field. National followers of FCS football were not in the least surprised. Liberty had really done little to merit national attention. There were no victories against teams from auto-bid conferences and only six victories against Division I teams.

Still, the Flames took the news hard.

Paul Young is one of several players who will play a key role in Liberty's special teams efforts in 2008.

Over the last several days, LibertyFlames.com’s Countdown to Kickoff coverage has brought you some insight from head coach Danny Rocco, breaking down the three major player units in his program, as his team has reached the midway point of its August training camp.

On Aug. 11, the web site got Rocco’s thoughts on his explosive offense, while a review of the Flames’ defensive unit came on three days later on Aug. 14. Today, we are going to wrap-up the three-part mini-series by getting Rocco’s insight into Liberty’s special teams unit.

Another look at Special Teams and Interview with Coach Wilt...
Specialist Looking for Another Special Year
August 20, 2008
Lynchburg, Va.

For the second-straight season, LibertyFlames.com’s Countdown to Kickoff coverage will feature the Coach’s Corner, an in-depth position-by-position breakdown for each of the Flames’ player units.

The coaching vignettes will include an article on the position, that position’s preseason depth chart and an audio interview with the spotlighted unit’s position coach. The 10-part series continues today with a look into Liberty’s special teams unit. The group has not only given the Flames prime field position in recent years, but also helped put up considerable points on the scoreboard over the past few seasons.

If you haven't been out to practice this year, tonight would be the night to go. The team is doing a dress rehearsal for the first game. It's Flames vs Sharks. Kickoff is at 7pm.

So have many people been able to go and watch practice lately?? If so, how are things shaping up? As of late, it seems like this thread has been mostly about the injuries...
