After only one year, I seriously doubt that anyone has Rocco figured out, so to speak.

There's nothing wrong with throwing a few different viewpoints out there, otherwise this board would be boring :boring :boring :boring

We can read all of the published reports that we want, but coaches only reveal what they want you to know or what they want you to think you know. Most of it really is a guessing game from our vantage point.

It will be fun to see how it all plays out this year

So basically, you're saying you don't trust Rocco. That's what it comes down to. That's the main difference here. I fully, 100% trust our head coach. I support him completely. The man has one of the best resumes at the FCS level. I fully trust our coaching staff from the head coach down to the support staff. Talk to some of the players. Ask them what they think. They trust this staff. They trust our head coach. They believe in what he's teaching. I trust him as well. Call me a homer, call me what you want, but I am completely sold on our coaching staff and will support them for as long as they're here.

Basically, if it comes on anything other than normal bread, without meat or with a name that can be confused for male genitalia, it's a girly sandwich.

Oh. Wrong thread.

I think that SJ is basically in conversation with himself at this point.

I will obviously never reach the level of SJ's knowlege of the program what with him as an insider and all.
I read the same articles hear the same coach and player interviews, and yet I draw different conclusions. Seems that the difference is that I know I'm not a football coach or expert.
Nice Sandwich comment Shorcho.
BTW, this is a great threas. It's nice to have some disagreement about the program for a change. I get sick of all the roses and flowery talk of undefeated seasons on here. Don't get me wrong, I hope it does happen and think the talent is there, but that why you play the games. Noone (except maybe Tim Donadhy) knows the outcomes in advance. A missed Point after here or a fumble there makes a big difference.

That's why I don't think we make the playoffs. It's possible and we're definatly a playoff worthy team, but with our lame-o schedule there is absolutely no margin for error. And there will probably be an error somwhere over the course of the season.

I think even without that error, it'll be very tough. We can't have games where we just barely win. They have to be convincing wins, and we have to get a TON of help.

Now that the 1AA has a national TV package for their playoff games with ESPN-2, we may actually get a break if we're close.

LU is a love'em or hate'em proposition for most fans, so a nationally televised game has ratings potential.

So, you're telling me that networks never go after ratings???

No I was balking at your idea that if we were close to making the playoffs, we might make it because we're interesting and might bring good ratings.

Good one!

I'm sure if the networks saw Liberty and say App. St. as "close" options, they would chose LU beacuse we'd bring the ratings rolling in!

I'm not saying that we'd beat out an Appalacian or Montana or any other 1AA powehouse. using the top team as your example is not very persuasive.

My point is that if we're on the bubble with your average run-of-the-mill sub division team, then we'll probally beat them out. I'm thinking more on the lines of teams like Nicholls State, Hofstra, Wofford, and Samford (sorry hoops). I'd like to think that if we shared a 9-2 record with so-so schools such as these, then we'd get the nod over them because the TV viewing potential is much higher. Again, no disrepect intended toward my good friend "Hoops Malone."
