If we do, Gills gets a new 5 year deal

I’m generally opposed to in season coaching changes. They rarely do any good. The only time they are successful is when you have someone on staff who could step in as a replacement. I don’t know that we have anyone who could step in and do better.

We are not acknowledging something if a change is made. A head coach that makes a change at coordinator also does so in fear that they know they are close to losing their job. In the case of Wimberly (that title for Singletary is simply for schematics purposes), he has shown he is in no way capable of doing a job like this.

Gill not doing anything, or even worse, the university not doing anything will tell students, alumni, and faculty whose taxes go to this product, that the university simply does not care. The school is at a crossroads, and I’d rather completely wash off the stench of the Barbers and Jeff’s decisions that put the university on the wrong path than continue with the nonsense.

I think you can change the coordinator, but let me be clear. There needs to be change at the end of this season. Regardless of whether we get one or two more wins, this will continue for years to come. There is a difference between winning 6 games, being competitive, and seeing there is progress. There is also winning 6 games where you may get one upset win, lose 4 games to programs that will finish 2-10 or 3-9 and see we get worse as the year goes on.

This is the first year I have followed LU sports...even joined the flames club to help support. I’m a long time Hokie fan back to the days when they were struggling for some National attention (now they just struggle constantly to match the hype) so to me LU is refreshing to watch. Yes the flames D is hard to watch (so is the Hokies D right now and they have little excuse) Some Changes should be made on Flames D for sure but hopefully recruiting will improve some of the issues. I absolute love Buckshot to AGG...yes we lost and that’s sad but wow!!! Go back and watch those catches by AGG I pray he gets picked up next level! Now to go watch the Basketball game today. God bless !

If there was a change I would be satisfied. Gill has done well this season but it’s typical Liberty football. Win a big game lose a should-be win game. The terms that I would be happy with would be an external hire from a FCS top defensive team. Colgate’s Paul Shaffner would be my number one pick.

“In 2017, Colgate's defense helped the program capture its ninth Patriot League title by allowing 17.5 points per game for its lowest figure in 36 years. The Raiders did not allow a touchdown over the season's final 15 quarters, and Colgate led the Patriot League in rushing defense, scoring defense and interceptions. Their interception total of 16 ranked seventh nationally and was the program's highest number of picks since 2005.

In 2016, the Raiders led the nation and the Patriot League and set a Colgate Football record by allowing just 69.4 rushing yards per game. They were second nationally in sacks with 34 and also led the conference in tackles-for-loss with 74.”

I was thinking last night, we may give up more points in football than basketball.

I just had an inspiration. Maybe if we send Wimbo up to Charlottesville for six years to hang with Bennett he'll learn how to coach defense.

For the record, all sports poll only predicted the team to win 3 games in the first season. LU has surpassed that mark! A few takeaways...Buckshot is a one-dimensional QB who has not made the adjustment to the expectations at the FBS level. His unwillngness to be mobile and weak throwing arm has hurt the offense! His inability to extend plays keeps the defense on the field too long. The Defense was gassed! 4th and 12...D got gassed. 3rd and 2...Buckshot choked (high snap should have been controlled)! If these 2 plays were successful, LU would be 5-3! Coaches call plays but players make plays, especially when it counts! You can bring in Dabo Swiney but if players don't make plays, we will still be dissappointed. Just as Scott Frost at Nebraska. Syracuse had this problem for the past 2 seasons with Dino Babers, and look at them now. FBS transition takes time to be consistently successful. Let's not be to quick to make judgements at this early stage of FBS transition...No matter how upset you get! Coaches know what they need to do through recruiting and development to be successful. Mistakes will happen! You can expect what you get in the first season!!!

How many points did LSU give up to Alabama? How many yards? They have an absolutely pitiful offense.
How close was LU for surrendering the most yards in an FBS game last night?
You are right about a lot, don’t get me wrong. But to say the defense is blameless is a bridge too far

A lot I could say right now, but I believe in being very nice/cordial/humble/hospitable/loving and kind:
1. Some here have said multiple times, that our fan base is uninformed and not very football savvy. I will have to agree 100%.
2. Someone should rename this thread and "Our next football coach" thread........ "Comedy Central or Saturday Night Brain-dead." Can't make some of this stuff up. 8) 8)
3. Has anyone here ever played football at varsity high school level or above? (Touch/Flag co-ed football during PE doesn't count, PH).
4. See #1

Does anyone else think that our defensive scheme, the 4-2-5, just isn't working? We're kind of stuck with it because we've recruited to that scheme. We're not strong against the run or the pass game.

Really? NOTHING with our defensive "scheme" is working. But.......... Wimbo said he had some new things that would work against UMass, then we go out and give up almost 800 yards. What a freaking joke. Reminds me of Mike Martz. "Oh, we'll fix that" TG should be fired (after the season), if for no other reason is that he hasn't fired Wimbo yet. 8)

Not to mention they are currently the number one defense in the FCS. They are currently 8-0. They’ve given up a total of 23 points all year. 5 of their last six games have been shut outs with the one non shut out being a 27-3 win over bucknell. How this guys phone hasn’t been blowing up idk. 23 points allowed all year, 17 of those coming in the first game, I couldn’t even imagine that.

If we had a defense, we would be knocking on door of Top 25 in polls. (Providing we're eligible for polls first year in FBS.

Safe to say the new stuff put in for UMass didn't work.

I like him as DC. I’m not ready to hire a Patriot League coach as our HC. That’s a big jump in terms of program management.
DC, he probably should get a shot as a head coach but in the FCS.

We got a shout out on College football final for giving up 300+ yards of receiving to a single receiver this past weekend. after the next two weeks I'm sure we can kiss our bowl chances goodbye. you now have to win one over Auburn/UVA plus beat NMSU to even sniff the possibility. I'm still waiting to for a legitimate reason as to why I should consider this season a success. especially after blowing two very winnable games that would already have us bowl eligible .

Blowing those 2 games raise some serious questions.

I overheard a guy at basketball game yesterday say when we were up 45-31, he started ordering his bowl tickets.
