Everyone knows FGCU because of their Tournament run. That's the point of having a Tournament run. Their women's team is also pretty good. Kennesaw St is pretty good. Lipscomb has a nice hoops history. I'm not seeing it as a step down

oldflame wrote:I don't know how much FGCU is spending on athletics, but I bet dollars to donuts most of the warm fuzzies here about playing in their conference stem from an NCAA tourney run they made 4 years ago. News flash. The coach who put that team together is now at USC and while they have had some continued success, it's not something I want to base my conference affiliation on. To me, the best thing about the A-Sun would be the attractiveness of the travel destinations. Pretty much anywhere in FL as well as Nashville, ATL, and the Big Apple certainly beat Clinton, Buies Creek and Boiling Springs as places to go on a road trip. It would be great for fans with unlimited free time and resources.
and what has the Big South done for you lately? FGCU is a known program now even though their run was a few years ago. They're still referred as "Dunk City". Lets look at the ASUN other accomplishments. Kennesaw State made it to Super Regionals in Baseball in 2014. FGCU WBB was ranked in 2015. FGCU men's soccer team is a top 10 team and made it to the sweet 16.

So how are they equal? ASUN has schools that spends money on athletics and has successful teams. Can the Big South say that...no. I'm sure the athletes would gladly take trips to Nashville/Jacksonville over Farmville/Boiling Springs any day of the week.

For what's it worth I'd take Atlantic Sun over The Big South any day of the week.

But I also absolutely hate the big south and the way it is run and would be happy going almost anywhere else for all other sports.

I don't see it as a step down either. I see at as pretty much a parallel move with a crap load of extra travel.

The BSC ranks just ahead of the A-Sun in MBB and Baseball RPI, while the A-Sun is a few spots ahead in WBB and several spots ahead in Softball.

Oh, I agree that if we leave it will be because the BSC "uninvited" us. I just can't see how that would benefit them in any way, shape or form.

I see you guys are taking the sly approach of running this place now

The 1% wins. The BSC is not good, but it is far from the worst. They rate higher in the RPI than 9 other leagues in football and 7 in Men's Basketball.

Gosh, if there are conferences worst than BSC I dont want to know who they are. It doesn't get much worst than G Webb, Blue Hose, Campbell, Radford and Longwood, across the board in all sports. Only school in BSC I remotely respect is Charleston Southern.

You should stick to softball. "Across the board in all sports" CSU is one of the bottom feeders of the BSC. They caught lightning in a bottle with a young coach, played fast and loose with the rules and won some football games. He's gone now. The place is a dumpster fire.

In his defense radebaugh did have bball at the top of the league for 2 or 3 years before they fell off. They never could capitalize though. There facilities are just deplorable.

You might, but some of us have kids and such. I could drive to radford, backtrack all the way to farmville, and drive home in an hour less than just driving to Charleston. A 13 hour road trip doesn't make sense for a large portion of us. Farmville is an hour away.

Yeah I get it Charleston has history and great seafood, although to be correct, CSU is not located in Charleston (the "jewel" of SC) but rather in NORTH Charleston (the armpit). I made the "beach trip" to see MBB play CSU and Coastal 10 consecutive years from 94-04 and a couple of other times as well. Doesn't change the fact that CSU is a dumpster fire. I was single, and at the time used a lot of my vacation days from work to travel to LU away games. Most people can't do that. They aren't looking for a "road trip". They want to go see a game and then drive home and sleep in their own bed.

So, I wonder if any decision will be made about Liberty's future in the BSC during their Spring meetings, going on right now?

It's going to be interesting to see if LU gets booted out of BSC. On one hand, I think BSC schools would like to see LU leave. But on the other hand, the BSC may feel that they need LU to keep BSC from sinking any lower.

If the decision were being made by ADs, I think they likely would be unanimous in wanting us to stay (despite the fact that it makes it harder for their programs to win). Since it will be college presidents/CEOs making the call, it could be a crap shoot. I'm sure a lot of them have been holding their noses from an idealistic standpoint putting up with having to be associated with us all these years, but they have gotten used to that. They also need to look at the pragmatic side of things, and in that area Liberty is the best thing the BSC has going for it.

FGCU averaged over 4200 fans or 98% capacity. UNF averaged over 2500 but when they made the ASUN championship they had over 6100 a few years ago. The basketball would be a huge improvement. Overall I think the move would be an improvement but obviously there are more attractive conferences. I think this would be a good start. Even USC upstate invested like 4 million in their basketball arena. It is small but it is really nice.
