Another loss does not eliminate us from an at-large either. With 24 teams, there will be a spot for a team with 7 D1 wins.

Exactly Sum, thanks!

I currently have $74 in my wallet. I will bet you that amount we won't get an at large if we lose another game
Ill borrow $74 from my wife to cover

Is it time to get "Beat Gardner-Webb" T-shirts now that Coastal will be gone?

Seems sad to say, but having an entitlement mind set would help explain how we lose the games we shouldn't.

I want to see #earnedFBSready

Gardner Webb! Team needs a history lesson. We are the Super Bowl game for every team in the Big South. Prepare accordingly.
True or not, this is the entitlement thing we're all talking about. Let's stop thinking we're better than the rest of the league and let's treat every game like Coastal, Montana, JMU, an FBS, etc....
I know you are disagreeing with me but We actually share the same opinion.. It's not entitled to expect your opponent to have his best game against you. Entitlement is doing nothing in spite of that, which is what you saw tonight.

I am saying that we didn't pay the bills this week and that rent is due every day.

Btw, announcers quoted the senior GW linebacker himself as saying we were the only BS program he had never beaten. Said he had the game circled in red on his calendar.

This is where our fundamental disagreement is.

The coaches get all the credit in the world when we play well and the players execute. They coached them up well, had a great game plan, and motivated them to win.

When we lose, it's because they players didn't execute, weren't focused, and didn't take the opponent seriously.

If the coaches are going to get credit when we win, and if they're going to get paid what they get paid, they have to be responsible for the players not performing. It's the nature of coaching. It's not fair, but it's the way it works.
Go back and read my posts from past games. I don't do that. I believe in the GASt thread I said it's amazing how much better the team looks when they execute. I don't think the coaches did anything more or less last week than this, but the players certainly did. The only criticism I'd have is the D the 1st half. It looked like they were not expecting a dual threat QB. I don't follow GW football so I don't know, but the announcers made it seem like this was something new that GW was trying. If it was, than kudos to the staff for making the half time adjustment. If not, than that's a hardy WTF. But at least they did change
I like this staff because every week, they seem to put the players in a position to win That has not been the case with every staff in every sport.
The staff normally does give us a chance to win the game, they just didn't do enough, fast enough this game. I seldom get on the coaches, but this game they do deserve some credit for the loss.
As far as GW's style, they didn't change anything for tonight. Their QB was their leading rusher coming into the game and had only thrown 3 TD passes all year, all to the TE. We should have been expecting just what we got. I don't understand not making the proper adjustments until halftime. (Putting a spy on the QB).

SuperJon wrote:The problem is it goes higher up than Jeff. It's the entire culture of the university.

We are in a very unique spot. At almost every university in the country, the athletic department has to raise money for upgrades (uniforms, buildings, FCOA, etc).

At Liberty, we don't have to raise any money. The University builds us new buildings, gives us new uniforms, and provides the funding for FCOA.

Our future upgrades have nothing to do with how well we do on the field. Whether we win every game or lose every game, we're going to continue building new buildings and providing full cost of attendance.

Our athletic department is both a beneficiary and a victim of the success of the online school.
I disagree. The athletics department is not a victim in any sense.

However, the bolded part is a major issue that can and should be quickly corrected.

Matthew 21:12-13King James Version (KJV)

12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

There's your precedent that you can "kick butt and take names", with love and compassion of course.

I'm giddy about the win for our program. McCray is the right man, hopefully we can string some wins together now.

Let me try to take the middle ground here. A lot of these problems are player problems, but it also goes back to the coaches not coaching well by failing to make adjustments. Lunsford has missed from the range he missed his whole career. He should be kicking from that range from different angles exclusively in practice. Maybe he is, but I doubt it.

We've seen Parker fall 15 times this year, most of the time because he's back pedaling. How has the coaching staff not adjusted where he lines up yet? It shouldn't be going over his head. And with how clunky his footwork is going backwards, you would think someone would have told him to let everything behind him go because of how it was a game changing turnover waiting to happen.

As far as entitlement, gosh, maybe some of you are right. This team is loads talented and it's baffling the lack of focus at times and how they've gotten there faces blown off early twice in two very winnable games.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda...Kudos to GW.

Last time I felt like this Liberty had just dropped the first game of the BS baseball tournment. I turned off everything and just checked out. Didn't even realized we won the thing until it was over. Then watched us beat Clemson twice in Columbia. I think I'll checkout until the CCU game.

This is the most distressing part.

We should not accept losses to GWU. Any loss against GWU should be treated like a wake up call, but I acknowledge that losses happen. Navy beats Notre Dame, Temple beats Penn State, etc. Or sometimes a team is flat out better like WVU and they will be very tough to beat no matter how well you play.

But there is absolutely no way that we should be blown out by teams like SIU and GWU. Since Turner Gill has taken over, the program has suffered 7 losses by 14+ points. One was to WVU this season and another was against UNC last season, but the other 5 are against FCS opponents. Those are not acceptable.

Understand the feelings well my friend. I have threatened to check out at least a dozen times over the years. I have wished many times, I could just give up my interest in sports all together. The pain of losing hurts more than the joy of winning any more.

Did we pray at the end and post it everywhere on social media? 'Cause you know, win or lose...

I remember a few years ago, only a few us on here saw the culture problem. Thankfully, most see it now. I have no idea what the overarching answer is, but at least we're all finally on board with the problem. The university could at least start by not pumping these kids full of their own ego. For craps sake they play at a FCS university (not a college) that is giving them an FBS experience; something most of them would have never dreamed of until they came here. This isn't JUCO. I at least expect effort and improvement, not entitlement and prone to bouts of mediocrity.

We aren't #FBSReady. We haven't arrived...*sigh*.

And for the record...I'm still a believer in Gill...I'm just trying to figure out for how many more games/seasons. Hopefully, he'll right the ship.

So, I guess when we lost to Presby several years ago to miss the playoffs, it was due to the players feeling entitled because we were FBS ready, great facilities, cost of attendance, etc. ? Oh wait..... that was waaaaay before we made the announcement we were going to pursue FBS, expanded the stadium, etc.

I've been thinking it for the past two weeks and this game pretty much sealed the deal. I'm pretty much done with Liberty football. I'll be starting at a new school next year when I leave the military so I'm gonna focus my energy on seeing that program improve. I think I'll just forget about LU football until they have a season where they're like 5-1 with that 1 loss being an understandable close one to a powerhouse team and then I'll follow the rest of that season to see if they actually make it to the big stage. And this is all coming from a die hard fan who was in the marching band during the Rashad Jennings/ Rocco era.

I'm not sure what you're getting at except for painting the picture of a program that isn't as far along as we all would like to think we are.

I don't think that was your point but it made me sad that we are still having presby type games.

It wasn't the same things as now but it was definitely not taking the opponent seriously and thinking we were better than them.
